Pros
ConocoPhillips is a great place to work.
- experience with an international corporation
- extensive focus on training
- great knowledge sharing atmosphere
- stable company, good collection of people
- good track of hiring interns back
- competent management and motivated co-workers
Cons
In comparison to other companies, there doesn't seem to be any downside. The only complaint might be the sluggishness on making decisions about project and moving them forward.
Advice to Senior Management
Put in place strategies to keep top talent and develop good engineers into managers.
Wish you all the best and keep up the good work!!!!!
Pros
As mentioned earlier, Retirement and benefits.
Cons
The usual issues that come with a large corporation. Too much "red tape" and communication between departments is often lacking.
The upcoming split (into two separate companies) appears to be driven by the desire to create one rather lucrative company and one company designed to absorb all of the negative feedback from the press and the EPA. This is great for stockholders but about half of the company employees will take a difficult turn as a result. These reasons appear self-absorbed and reflect a cut-throat attitude.
Advice to Senior Management
I have no advice for future development as the damage has already begun and cannot be reversed at this point.
Pros
- 19/30 program (8 1/2 hours a days for 1 day off a month)
- great benefits
- room for advancement (currently)
Cons
- Bartlesville is tiny and uneventful (prepared to get married)
- Management could use improvement - depending on the team
Advice to Senior Management
- There is a lot of middle management in ConocoPhillips. There are various levels of management - not necessarily in a positive light. Some environments are micromanaging
Pros
Nice savings plan along with a traditional pension help make retirement planning more direct
Cons
The industry is at the mercy of the world market regarding crude oil and stability is no longer guaranteed
Advice to Senior Management
Please consider the impact on all of the business units when deciding the course of the company as a whole
Pros
Salaries in the Oil & Gas industry are usually above average
The company's retirement savings benefits are strong
It's bonus program is fairly strong
Cons
ConocoPhillips looks to target its salaries right in the middle of its peers
Bonuses are primarily based on the company's performance as a whole leaving little incentive for an individual to stand out
Staffing assignments and promotions are based on the "buddy system"
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more people
Develop the people you already have
Increase the free flow of information within the organization
Put better people in to middle management positions
Pros
Lots of learning opportunities and chances to work in the field. Interaction with manual labor folks drives hands on learning
Cons
Rotational managers may not be most effective in their departments. Large disparity between what happens in the the field and what managers think happens in the field.
Advice to Senior Management
Interact more with front line employees. Be aware of challenges each department faces. Maintain focus on safety but also be mindful of practicality.
Pros
Great Opportunity for advancement opportunities
Cons
A lot of competition for open positions
Pros
A great place to work. Great support from corporate office, senior management, and company executives. Company did not lack on communication at all! Treated their employees with respect and acknowledged them when needed.
Cons
It is a gas station- you have to have the right personality to work at a gas station. There are certain people who can do it, and others who try and fail. Company sold 72 retail stores to horrible "mom and pop" company in Denver called PCF Saleco, LLC. Stores are now being run into the ground and not maintaining the ConocoPhillips name. Maintenanace issues at stores. Employee issues at stores. No loss prevention in place. No raises in years for managers. No raises for employees past 90 days. No bonuses.
Pros
Excellent benefits
Inexpensive location
Good salary
Young families living in B'ville
Cons
Competitive environment
Uncertain future of the company
Erratic leadership
Focused on non-business
Advice to Senior Management
Improve communications
Be less erratic
Pros
Good pay. Intern program is alright. Could've been much better, but the Finance and IT interns had it much better since they had a good HR manager. You get to meet a lot of people through Lunch n Learns. The problem is, the interns started separating a bit, with the finance group hanging with themselves, procurement with themselves, etc. Yet there were a fair number of interns who organized and attended social events outside of work hours.
Cons
Bartlesville is not very exciting.
Corporate bureaucracy is very very evident. VP of HR even said something along the lines of: "you'll be promoted based on how you are perceived...."
COP barely hires outside of Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, and Texas. So if you're coming from the north or anywhere else, you'll be alone.
For any prospective interns out there, this may all change after I write this because of the split. But I doubt there's going to be any culture changes. It's probably going to be the same boring corporate company like any other.
Advice to Senior Management
Be transparent; communicate with those down the hierarchy and promote based on intuitive characteristics
