I can't think of a better school district to work in.

    Pros

Inclusive of all learners, much opportunity and expectation of professional growth, clear and consistent in expectations, wonderful sense of community, excellent superintendent

    Cons

Huge amounts of testing. Day long benchmarks in every subject, three times per year, in addition to literacy assessments at least 3 times per year that take days to complete for all class members. Weekly common assessments in reading and math which may also take an entire test day for each. However, this is not entirely the district's fault. Sign of the times....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    None. I love working there!

Too much "good ole boy" politics

    Pros

The pros are the schools are well kept, and the district does a good job of maintaining older schools and building newer schools.

    Cons

Often the leaders (principals) are dishonest and care little for the welfare of their teachers. There is little freedom for teachers and too much teaching to the STAAR test.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Karma is not fun and so you need to think about what you do to teachers who do not deserve your unjust and unfair treatment of them.

Horrible leadership with sub par working conditions

    Pros

There were no Pros to this job. There was no way to grow or improve your job position and the central office was not supportive of staff promotions of any kind. You had to be one of the 'good ole boys' to rise above a base level in this district.

    Cons

The administration was more concerned with making good news than actually teaching or reaching its students. The main goal of central office was to look as politically correct and as good as possible while doing as little as possible in the classroom to help students or support teachers.

Good job if you want to sacrifice salary for school schedule. You are off holidays and summers.

    Pros

37.5 hrs per week, plus off all school holidays and the summer.

    Cons

Very low pay, with a lot of responsibilities and no room to promote and very low (less than .10/hr) annual raises, if any.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Paras are the backbone of the school. You are losing excellent, dedicated employees because you expect way too much for way too little pay.

    Pros

CISD has the best administration I have ever worked with. Everybody works for improving the educational experience for the children.

    Cons

You will work really hard here. I don't know if that's a con, but you need to know that this district makes sure they follow every law, and consequently everyone has extra work.

    Pros

I like being able to set my own weekly schedule. I can pick and choose dates to sub. I work as much or as little as I want.

    Cons

The pay is not the best. It is hard to survive off what is given.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I heard CISD employees got a raise "across the board" this school year. Including Subs in the "board" would be beneficial to all: Subs & teachers alike.
