    Pros

If you want to be president of a print shop, there isn't a better way to go.
You will learn a lot, although it may be trial by fire.

    Cons

Compensation is poor to fair, benefits are poor. You really have to take your medicine before you reap the rewards of your hard work

    Advice to Management

Hire people who genuinely have the goal to run a print shop or revamp the program.

    Pros

Good business experience and time to figure out what you want to do.

    Cons

Pay is a laughing joke, you are expected to work long hours or your not considered a hard worker (I accomplished more than most people dream of from 8-5 but it didn't matter because I wasn't there for 10 to 12 hour days.) Turnover is super high, I witnessed over 10 LDPs come and go in my 4 years there in a facility with 85 or so. I only saw 2 people actually graduate the program from all classes over a 4 year period. It's so bad they have to hire 2-5 new LDPs every summer and winter depending on the facilities needs. Even if you make it through the LDP and graduate, the pay increase is a joke and you are still stuck on a difficult, dying industry with lots (and I mean lots) of headaches. In the end there are much better jobs out there with better pay, better benefits, less headaches, and better management. Do not work for this company (no matter the position) and waste years of your life.

    Advice to Management

Your business is run by people, not robots or slaves. Everyone will hit the point where they won't take on more responsibility without more pay. Some people take longer to reach that point than others but why push everyone to their breaking point? That bottom line would look 100x better if your employees are happy, loyal, and care about their job. An extra $10k in salary is better that 100k in spoilage every month. Stop treating LDPs like they are kids in high school. I left there to get a real job and I finally feel like I'm an adult in my late 20's. When someone leaves the company with lots of responsibility, this is not an opportunity to absorb that salary to the bottom line. You have to actually replace people! If you don't your business will continue to break down more every day and employees will be miserable.

Work lots, extremely low pay, employees are not valued. Choose this company only as a last option!

    Pros

    - Leadership Development Program (LDP) provides opportunities to learn essential business skills.
    - LDP provides opportunity for one to move up quickly.
    - Small business environment in day to day
    - Opportunity to relocate nationwide (70 domestic locations + 1 in Czech Republic)
    - Buys you time to figure out what you want to do; try it all before choosing a path (management, operations, sales)

    Cons

    - Pay is below market.
    - No raises.
    - No bonuses. If you get one it's small.
    - Pay cuts.
    - Benefits are horrible; I would define it as bare minimum. $140 per paycheck for employee only. The cost of insurance coverage increases with each calendar year.
    - No 401k matching.
    - Work long hours. 9-10 hours per day + weekends. The full time salary positions are exempt (no overtime pay).
    - Extremely high employee turnover rate.
    - Little to no recognition for your hard work.
    - LDP is not well structured; program varies from one operating company to another.
    - While the LDP allows one to move up quickly, upward mobility is limited and comes with strings attached. For example, to be promoted quickly one must:

    * Be mobile. When they call upon you, you pack your bags and move anywhere they want you to go without question.
    * Take great risk that you may be thrown (promoted to President) in shark infested water (of a failing operating company) without so much as a life vest (appropriate resources/tools).
    * Promotions are essentially title changes only. The pay is not competitive; the increase in salary is insulting. For example, a former co-worker was recruited by corporate to take a VP of Operations position, but they only wanted to give him a minor increase from the LDP Associate's salary. Why should a VP (director level) be valued at a starting position's salary level?

    Advice to Management

CGX doesn't care about people and it's not a secret. If leadership really wants to turn this ship around they would immediately start looking at how to retain talent and encourage loyalty. Stop staring at the numbers on the income statement. Printing is a manufacturing, but at the core of it all, it is a people business.

Keeping talented happy employees around would have significant, positive impact on the company... including your precious bottom line.

    Pros

Many of the employees here are great people. It amazed me how a company with such a bad tone at the top could have such great people working under it.

    Cons

The main problems I had while working at CGX could be gathered into: (1) Execs and upper management do not care the slightest bit about employee retention. The CEO believes high turnover is good for a company. The result? You are not valued (and they don't even try to pretend to make you feel like you are). (2) The lack of benefits. Literally any other company you go to will have a better health insurance plan at a cheaper price. I paid $250 a month (employee only) for their cheapest insurance option. They do not offer 401k matching. Salaries are not competitive with the market. If you are looking for a company that cares about its employees, look elsewhere. If you are unemployed and are desperate for a job, work at CGX until you find something better.

    Advice to Management

Increase employee morale with benefits and programs showing the company cares about its employees. Pay your employees more. At least put the employees whose pay you cut 5 years ago back to their starting point. Offer 401k matching. At least offer better health insurance coverage if the costs are going to be so high.

    Pros

It is a Job. And it is close to several good restaurants.

    Cons

Pay is low for the amount of work expected (after-hours and weekend work without pay).
    Expensive Health benefits.
The different groups do not work well together (Developer vs Project Management).
Some managers do not have any managerial skills (programmer promotion to Manager).
Too much turn over - people leaving every week (some people have left after only a few months there).
Never park in the bottom of the garage, because it floods.
And do not go to HR about any issues, they will let you go...

    Advice to Management

Hire some people as manager that actually have a Management degree.
The lack of an actual Sick Day policy in the employee handbook make life confusing.

    Pros

If you are a graduate straight out of college, this is a great starter company and a good way to pad your resume.

    Cons

There are no raises, only steady pay and/or eventual pay cuts. CGX does the bare minimum possible for their long term employees. While I am fully aware of the economic situation, CGX does nothing to provide real, motivating incentive to be loyal to their company. In my experience, people only work for CGX companies because they have to due to the economy, not because they necessarily enjoy what they do.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your on the ground employees, they are your biggest asset.

    Pros

As part of the Leadership Development Program, you are able to learn a lot in a short period of time and work in different parts of the company (customer service, estimating, accounting, etc.) to garner more experience than most recent college grads.

    Cons

The Leadership Development Program boasts that you could become a company president one day, but they give you no visibility of how to get there.

They expect you to work to the bone and "pay your dues" for little or no respect.

They view everyone as "replaceable", and they aren't afraid to tell that to your face.

    Advice to Management

Fairly compensate your employees and show that you value them.
