I have been working at Constellation Energy Group as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Constellation has an amazing work environment in the heart of downtown Chicago. The people are incredibly friendly and hardworking. I learned a lot from my internship there.

    Cons

Constellation got taken over by Exxelon and they went from constantly looking for employees to having no open marketing positions very quickly.

I have been working at Constellation Energy Group full-time

    Pros

Team members are great, for the most part. Working at a Nuclear Power Plant provides interesting work. Job stability. Decent benefits. Free safety shoes!

    Cons

Weird promotion rules. People who obviously have more talent, skills and responsibilities are often passed over for promotions in favor of old-timers who've been around longer. Merit pay increases are a joke (1% raise doesn't even cover cost of living). Although there is an emphasis on safety, schedule pressures can force people's hands. Work Life balance is a joke: 40 hours a week job really means 50-60 with no extra pay.

    Advice to Management

Stop squeezing every inch of work from your people without duly compensating them. Pay people extra when they are in ERO duty.

  8. Fortune 500 company- overall decent

I have been working at Constellation Energy Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fortune 500, brand recognition, decent salary once you move up the ranks, nice downtown location, management is personable, tuition reimbursement (now it takes three years to forgive(1/3 a year), generous sick leave, average 401k match

    Cons

Difficult to move up the ranks (when the company was smaller it was a lot easier), feel like a number, not a person, work environment is like a factory floor or sardine can, have to pay for parking, bureaucracy, no recognition for advanced degrees, organization is so large you never know who to go to, office gets so loud you can't hear yourself think.

    Advice to Management

Provide a more comfortable work environment (ex. cubicles, white noise). Currently the offices are set up in rows like a factory floor, no privacy, and extremely loud at times (disruptive). Provide more cross-training opportunities so people have more exposure to different areas and have back up for when they are out of the office.

    Pros

Many good people and decent money. Its like working with a big family.

    Cons

Healthcare Benefits took a turn for the worse 2 years ago.

    Advice to Management

There is a need to focus more on the people and not so much on the mighty dollar.

  10. An amazing experience combined with respect from co-workers.

    Pros

Many opportunities Ability to advance Great compensation for good performance A team atmosphere with respect for each employee

    Cons

Sometimes knowledge is not shared adequately Interns can be looked upon as a nuisance

    Advice to Management

The leadership team provides quality feedback, necessary support, and a helping hand in creating work life balance. They are trustworthy and competent. You won't find managers who cannot step in to complete an employees tasks in an emergency or who doesn't know their staff and their areas of responsibility. This management team sets the bar high for other companies.

  11. I have enjoyed my time there and am looking forward to growing in the company

    Pros

Lots of room to grow due to the retiring work force. Also the salary is good and the people are very good and enjoyable to work with. I get the feeling that most workers would do a lot for each other.

    Cons

The benefits (health care) were recently reduced, but that is more common with the new rules. Also the demands of the work week can often exceed the normal 40 hours.
