Remember Eastern Airlines, Circuit City, and Contech??

    Project Consultant (Current Employee)
    Dallas, TX

ProsGood people at the local level and the brand still has awareness; unfortunately it is fading fast

ConsMultiple layers of redundant & incompetent management that hinder the people trying to conduct business, and stifles new ideas or changes. Overpriced products with no intrinsic value over the competitors’ products. I have worked in numerous regions and the consensus is the same all over. The lack of transparency regarding the company’s future and appearance to only focus on the short-term quick buck makes it a nice place to visit, but you wouldn’t want to live here!

Advice to Senior ManagementI started with BridgeTek so I know what you know, If you really believe the bridges, pipe, etc are worth a higher premium than the rest of the market, show your people why it is so they can convey it. The fact is that there is no real justification for these higher prices, your customers know it, and your competitors appreciate it.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Going Down Fast

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThere really are no pros to working for this company.

ConsThis could be a really long list. Lets start with the executive team: they suck. They don't care about anyone but themselves and they are running the company into the ground. They spend all the money on themselves and the hard working employees pay for it. Countless employees have left over the past several months, and they have turned to hiring young, fresh out of college kids that have no clue what they are getting themselves into. Run fast from this company if you are a current employee or if you are interviewing. There are much better companies out there. This one is going down fast. Numbers are being fudged and something shady is definitely going down.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet a clue. Learn how to run a company. Stop spending all the money on yourselves.

    Company is mismanaged!

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    West Chester, OH

ProsI really can't think of any pros to working for this company, there are so many other "good" companies out there.

ConsNot a healthy work environment, nor does CONTECH offer its employees any type of work life balance. The company hasn't been financially stable in over five years. in my time at CONTECH the private investors changed four times. What does that say about a company? The company is totally mismanaged. Employees are over worked and not appreciated.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey wouldn't take note of anyone's suggestions, so why make a comment here.

President of this, President of that... getting nowhere.

    Sales Engineer (Former Employee)
    Phoenix, AZ

ProsNot much. Although in the right territory and smoozing the correct mgmt you can find yourself with some lucrative sales territories/compensation structures.

ConsCompany is mismanaged beyond comprehension. They can't get the management structure correct, have too many Presidents of this and Presidents of that who clearly can't make the correct decisions for the company (as evident by numerous layoff's, poor product quality, logistical internal nightmares and pricing which is anything but competitive), This ship has already sunk. Not the company of the 80's and 90's.

Advice to Senior ManagementLess smoke and mirrors pretending you know what you are doing.

    Future is uncertain

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood benifits, good people. Everyone works hard to strengthen the business in these hard times.

ConsManagment is all over the place. Goals and company focus change all the time. Very little communication on company performance.

Ability of upward movement and authority to react immediately

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsWorking with Contech has been great in their management team. The company is looking to expand and is very open to suggestions from all levels of the company. Also, being a part of American Manufacturing is important as well

ConsPay is a little low for like work, sometimes feels that there are too many initiatives going on to proper focus on, nurture, and cultivate single ideas/projects

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow new initiatives to come out at the plant slowly over time instead of adding multiple initiatives rapidly. Give the plant time to adjust and refine new SOP's before pushing in another.

    Run, don't walk away

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat employees (if there are any left)

ConsYet another round of job cuts last month, how many more times will senior management do this before they realize they have decimated what once was a great company? Morale is awful, everyone is looking over their shoulders wondering what will happen next and nobody has trust in the executive team.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut your egos aside and leave so that some real leaders can come in and salvage what is left of this company. Your employees are smart enough to see right through what you are doing, stop spending money frivolously when you haven't made any contribution to the company.

Long for the good ol days...yet another major reduction in work force

    Sales Engineer (Former Employee)

    ProsGreat Product Line
    Excellent Technical Support Staff
Solid people on the fron line

ConsToo many layoffs over past 5 years
Go on furlough, get an email....is that wrong or what?
    Big Brother...everything is salespeople's fault
Incompetent middle managers including some Director positions

Advice to Senior ManagementYou don't win a war by depleting sales staff, i.e. those in battle on the front line taking the bullets. This company is WAY TOO Fat in the middle and continues to bulge at the seam. The overhead keeps pricing levels at uncompetitive levels. Signature PVC product is too high to sell, company insists on 15% profit margins in an economy that doesn't allow it but due to being fat in the middle it's 15% or nothing. As former Sales Engineer, it's been nothing for way too long. Too many managers sitting at their desk dictating selling strategies in territories they aren't familiar with (because they spend their day behind a desk) to contractors they never met (because they spend their day behind a desk) thus negating the human element which is so vital in relationship building as a sales organization

Great job, good people, poor senior leadership that gets in the way of having a great company

    Project Consultant (Current Employee)

ProsGreat sales and marketing position, with great exposure to market due to breadth of portfolio.
Create your own schedule, good benefits (car, phone, med, etc)
Technical experts and staff second to none.
Old company promised good return for good work, you reap what you sow.

ConsManagement (ELC) gets in the way of progress and growth
Stifilng of regional management to conform to a National model which doesn't work, since engineering/construction markets are regional.
Nationalization has alienated customers and compromised product quality.
Inability of management to embrace 21st Century "Consultative Selling" of highly engineered systems and "Value Added" approach to customers.
Pressure to conform to Corporate initiatives for performance metrics, such as number of calls per week and reporting, rather than letting the sales numbers speak for success.
Company let too many good people go without realizing how poorly they would be missed and how underappreciated they were.

Advice to Senior ManagementLeave and never comeback. You destroyed a great company.
Perhaps you can apply your commodity sales experience in China.
You do not belong in the modern Engineering/Construction marketplace.

Don't be fooled by the rosy image at the interview process

    Engineer (Former Employee)
    Denver, CO

ProsJust like in any other place, there are descent people above you (nevetheless, they cannot deliver on promises because the multiple-layer structure and mentality).

ConsCorporate mentality is so rampant here. It just puts you in a complete circle and makes you feel that you have gotten absolutely nowhere. Just stuck in a rut.

Advice to Senior ManagementWake up, and look at your people as humans not just mere numbers.
