Was a great place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsGreat co-workers and management. The recognition that the contributions of every employee no matter what level in the company were crucial to the company's success built a foundation where everyone was truly working together. While pay was not so wonderful the benefits and work life balance afforded were well worth it.

ConsMany talented people were lost in the process of the merger with United.

    Great internship

    Engineering Co-Op (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsFlight benefits, better pay than many similar internships, opportunity to learn a lot, you get to play with multi-million dollar toys, plenty of travel opportunities and networking

ConsVery few, some bosses are better than others, sometimes you're asked to do things that aren't very fun (remember you're an intern), Houston is VERY hot in the summer

Everything was great until we got a bean-counter and M&A lawyer running a customer service oriented business

Airplane Pilot Or Copilot (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsGreat coworkers. Good equipment. That is it.

ConsJeff Smisek has ruin the quality of this airline so he can get his merger bonus and get out. I am tired of hearing the complaints from passengers after a decade of nothing but compliments.

ProsGreat company to work for and there is much room for advancement. Everyone is great to work with and enjoys it.

ConsBe prepared to be gone for long periods of time. Especially in the 1st year at least. Away from family/friends.

Merger of EQUALS, someone forgot to tell United.

    Airport Operations (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsUsed to be culture, coworkers, benefits, teamwork at all levels, pride in our service.

ConsNow, loss of culture, lack of teamwork, no trust, management arrogance, condescending attitudes, no one listens.

Advice to Senior ManagementAn old fashioned housecleaning at headquarters needs to happen. Smisek should have kept operations CO instead of finance.

A good place to work, but busy

    Flight Dispatcher (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsGood benefits (pension + 401K match), Decent Salary, Nice Co-Workers, Decent Medical benefits, and a pretty good pay scale compared to the industry as a whole

ConsSometimes management seems to play favorites and promote people without actively posting that a job is available; workload can be kind of high depending upon the day/weather/etc.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen you merger your company, don't give the company you're merging with every single thing they ask for if you're going to be the person who is in charge of the company once the merger is complete.
