Pros
-Easy Job
-No prior computer knowledge necessary (but it helps)
-Promote Within
-Always looking to add bonuses, gift cards, etc
Cons
-Consumer Management is their business. Means they do work for other companies. Because of this, you have Convergys bosses and that company's bosses. Lots of times this makes it tough on the entry level hourly employee. Once you get to staff level, Convergys is awesome!
Pros
The people. Benefits and Paid time off are good if you've been there a while.
They have a pretty good tuition reimbursement program
Cons
It's all about the numbers. If you care about the people, then you aren't going to be successful. Sell, sell, sell no matter what.
Not enought training or time to do what is expected
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate better with employees at all levels. If someone is struggling, then help them, but don't always focus on the cookie cutter approach.
The Human Resource Department should focus on consistency and employee satisfaction
Pros
Bonuses based on performance, diverse employees, good pay for the work, different projects to choose from after so long, PTO from the first day
Cons
Not willing to work around school schedules or other schedules and have to commit to regular full time schedule, some employees think they are better than others because of how long they have been with the company, have to obtain higher quality scores, low misspelling errors, and give customers the right answer every time a call is reviewed or you will get fired the third time.
Advice to Senior Management
Do not promote someone based on how long they have been with the company, but on their performance
Pros
above industry-rate compensation and fair performance-based appraisal.
Cons
high-pressured environment, work station shortage, no sleeping lounge
Advice to Senior Management
strive to be more pro-employees than client-centric.
Pros
Convergys was a steady work enviornment. there were multiple ways to earn extra money and advancement chances were also pretty bountiful. I like the varied shift and scheduling chances also
Cons
the downside to working at convergys was management. they had favroites that would get promoted to areas off the phone or better schedules...everything almost solely depended on who you knew.
Pros
Easy work physically, T.V.'s to watch on every row of cubicles, absence policy is laid back. Pay was geat for me as a young college student, but that was with someone else in my life also bringing home income, otherwise don't expect to be able to support yourself if you have rent, utilities, cable, gas, food, and other necessary expenses to pay for monthly.
Cons
The environment - very dull place to work, no windows or any natural light.
The culture - Maybe my expectations were just radical, but I expected to be working along side other people in the same age category, somewhere from 18-24 not men and women who could be my mother/father or grandparent.
Company expectations - It is a call center, but I saw numerous co-workers get laid off for things such as "phone-time variance" ( the amount of time it takes once you log-in to the computer and to log-in to the phone system). Other statistics which had nothing to do with how well you treat the customer's or handle the situations, just statistics the company worries about when it comes to resigning a contract. Ex (average call time, transfer rate, sales, after call work or how long it takes you to type to detailed notes they want about the call, credits etc.)
Training - Spent three weeks in a class and two weeks on phones with aid. The three weeks spent in class did nothing to prepare for actual calls just unnecessary "Wikipedia" like information. We didn't talk once about how to sell "premium channels" and dealing with rejections, just that it was a requirement that we sold them to customers on every call.
People - I worked on the Direct TV assignment for the company, and over half the calls were not only complaints, but people just not living in this state called reality.
Attendance - Although you could miss 11 straight days (12 allowed but fired on the 12th missed day) if you wanted and not get fired, every time you are one min late it counts as .25 out of that 12. Even it is just because the computer was slow to log you in, tech it can be removed but good luck with finding a sup who will do that in the allotted time.
Advice to Senior Management
Spruce the work environment up, I would much rather come to a place where I can see the outside and not feel like Im in holding for a crime.
Lower the turn over rate - there is a big sign outside the building displaying "where always hiring" (which you can see from the highway about 200 yards away) for a reason. Convergys would save loads of time and money if they trained with the information that needed to be taught, and brought a much more pleasant work environment (color on the walls-windows-spaced out work station, like assign one computer to one person and group us in tens or twenties and spread us throughout the building, not like we work on wall street and all 150 people are within a 50ft space.)
Be Reasonable
Pros
very good trainers, hours are ok, the cafeteria was good enough and they also had a pretty good break room
Cons
They treat you like a prisoner the second you enter the building, having to constantly clock in and out, if you're late by just a few minutes youll never hear the end of it
Pros
It's not a very complicated job. The training is extensive, depending on the project. A very clear cut job description.
Cons
Starting out on flex shift is hard. You don't become eligible for a better shift until project-wide shift bids are done.
Advice to Senior Management
Management is ok. There's no real defined path for promotion. It does seem that for my particular project, They just need bodies in seats to answer phones.
Pros
Good benefits, even tuition reimburstment.
Awesome attendence policy
Cons
Small working environment,
Paid trinkets
Advice to Senior Management
Not offered to me
Pros
I liked the people I worked with
Cons
The team leaders were so overworked, they couldn't fire someone quickly enough when they were absent too many days.
Pay is way too low, they outsourced our jobs to the Phillipines because convergys wanted to save money.
Advice to Senior Management
Team leaders need assistants and upper management should recognize call center reps who have been there a long time might be better doing management since they know the call center ropes.
