Pros
The majority of the people there are wonderful to work with. There are still some good executives left in the company. The salaries are competitive.
Cons
The senior management team are pretty much in it for themselves and have little to no vision. They treat employees poorly, providing no work and life balance. If you are not willing to lay your personal life on the line, you are treated poorly and will be part of the next layoff. Employees have little to no say about the company; just a lot of "lip service" from executives. There is a lot of good talk, but no one doing the walk.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat people as valued members of the company. Focus on what is important, not just making money. In the words of Bob Seger, "I feel like a number" is the mantra there. Teamwork has been replaced by personal agendas.
Pros
Great pay compared to other companies I have seen. Like most places, can also be fun IF you land in the right group. If in the right opportunity, you can have room for growth.
Cons
Large company, views people as resources, tends to just "assume" what people will do. Also fails to do a good job planning needs and giving folks a chance to grow into those needs. Lots of "old buddy" present. Management frequently does not want to hear input other than what they expect.
Advice to Senior Management
Put your money where your mouth is and accept input that is not exactly what you want. Also, stop the game of the constant layoffs. Many folks realize that they don't have a chance of a long term career with you. That's a shame because 10-15 years ago that's what you offered and had an awesome group of people working there!
Pros
benefits are great
hours are good, currently no weekend work
ease of job
adequate training provided
good working relationship with your peers
Cons
need to be in the in crowd for advancement
Advice to Senior Management
increase starting pay would get you more workers who are willing to stay
set realistic metrics and not goals that the common worker can't meet
Pros
It was a much better company when it was CBIS. The new CVG management is horrible and totally not focused on the future.
Cons
They constantly let people go -- especially the most experienced ones.
Pros
It is an okay place to start. Plenty of projects to learn management and technical skills. There are really some good knowledgable employees at job who can be good mentors.
Cons
Sweat shop. Process improvement options are very limited. Growth is very slow. Culture of appreciation needs a lot to be desired. There is no work and life balance
Advice to Senior Management
Employees should be encouraged to have a work-life balance. Also, managers at the upper levels are more of a paper pushers and they need to be replaced with young blood with fresh ideas
Pros
Decent salary, benefits average, time off ok if you can stick around a while
Good place to work at the start of your career, but plan on moving on after you have a few years of experience
Environment will vary by group, and some groups give managers a lot of flexibility. If you are lucky to land in this environment and get along with your manager things should be smooth for you.
Cons
Management never wants to hear about problems or project issues
Management is always performing reorganizations and will repeat a buzz word of the year in meetings but never provides input with substance as far as how goals will be reached
Demonstrated lack of desire to keep experienced folks on board
Like most companies, upper management seems to always get their stock options and bonuses whether the stock is tanking and we are laying off people or whether we had a good year. And we hear, if the stock is down "it is hard to control the market" and if the stock is up "Look what good I did"...
Advice to Senior Management
Put some emphasis on real results and give real rewards to success, get out and walk around a little bit and see what your people have to go through to get their jobs done, especially in light of all of the outsourcing.
Pros
In the past Convergys invested a lot on the personal development of their employees. Offered numerous mentors to gain leadership experience.
Cons
The company has lost so much business over the last 5 years that they had to let go people so frequently.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to get more aggressive in winning new business to provide opportunities to grow for the employees, thereby retaining talent.
Pros
Nice place to learn new things if you are in right BU.
Good compensation package.
Good people.
concept of mentor ship helps a lot.
Cons
HR does not have much power.
Not very good HR team.
some outdated policies which needs change.
less onsite oppertunity
Advice to Senior Management
Give HR more power and don't focus only on one business lateral.
re visit and address policies which are existing.
Pros
Want routine job
Want complete monotony
Cons
No good growth opportunities
Bad management in terms of promotions
Pros
- Friendly coworkers, management takes procedures seriously and gives good feedback about how you are doing.
- Large company so you get to interact with some big clients in cable and broadband.
Cons
Developers spend much time working on an old, obsolete system called ICOMS which manages billing information for cable and broadband companies. Boring as all get out! Runs on OS/360. Yikes!
Advice to Senior Management
I know it's difficult in a large company to offer everyone room to advance, but if someone is really shining in software development, they need a career path down which to grow. Otherwise you will find yourself without any talent!
