I worked at Cook County Health and Hospitals System full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

High variability and challenges related to patients that you will treat. I was challenged daily to think of progressive and creative plans of care secondary to challenges that the patients at Provident hospital present with.

    Cons

Lack of up to date modalities and department budget for upgrades to equipment.

I have been working at Cook County Health and Hospitals System as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

There are alot of really good people and great opportunities to make a difference. The organization is uniquely positioned to positively impact the health and wellness of whole communities within Cook County

    Cons

organizational politics and changing marketplace conditions frequently get in the way and stifle progress, people and a person's ability to make a difference. The politics of healthcare in Cook County and the country as a whole may not fully support this institutions desire to provide full safety-net healthcare services. While management is navigating this period of marketplace/industry upheaval, it is best to understand 'chaos management' if choosing to work in this environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

they are in a tough place themselves.

As political as any job could be. Don't support my agenda, take a hike!

I worked at Cook County Health and Hospitals System

    Pros

    Health plan and retirement benefits.

    Cons

New hospital board comprised of new players of same old political game. External consultants pack heavy pockets on the backs of taxpayers and vulnerable populations. No regard for professional minded employees-threaten exposure to their lack of KSAs. If your heart is in improvement of a system, culture or self, stay away.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop leaders and allow them to manage; managers-stand firm on your principles and dis the management by fear philosphy. Create a culture of safety for employees.
