I worked at Cooper Industries full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Glad to no longer be associated with this company.

    Cons

Regret ever being involved with this organization. Experienced an environment of less than straight forward communication with employees. Direct questions often sidestepped or left unanswered entirely. This company views due diligence as the primary factor in managing personnel.

    I worked at Cooper Industries

    Pros

As a large corporation with unique divisions, an employee can have a lot of options assuming there are no geographic constraints.

    Cons

Compensation is weak compared to market rates. Great program in place for leadership development with undergrads but does not have the oversight in place to continue to foster future leaders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The structure should provide incentives to employees in leadership positions. Or else, what would the point be of having a title?

I have been working at Cooper Industries full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Really has some great people to work with - benefits are good for the industry - pay is decent for the area

    Cons

Very poor work/life balance - Many people get burned out quickly - It seems like you work all the time - I have seldom even taken all my vacation because it would take me too long to catch up. Managers are abusive , use foul language, and show little to no appreciation for hard work. Many have worked for years with a constant fear of being terminated when layoffs come and have watched many of their co-workers walked out when it should have been the poor performers or upper management. The company is very "top heavy" - There are way to many managers or directors and not enough people to actually do the "work"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

TALK to your employees - all of them - ask their opinions - Show them respect - Get to know them - earn their trust and respect. They don't mind dedication and hard work - but they would like to be appreciated.

I have been working at Cooper Industries full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

It's easy to find waste everywhere that you can get rid of with Lean events, problem solving, and collaboration. People actually care about each other at the plant and for the most part respect one another kind of like a family atmosphere.

    Cons

There is not a lean/six sigma mindset at the plant. Resistant to change for the most part. Hiring freeze is a pain. Understaffed Quality team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Place more of an emphasis on quality. Support a Lean/Six Sigma culture.
