Former Employee - Everything But the Kitchen Sink in Lexington, SC

I worked at Cooper Tools full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You will learn how not to run a manufacturing firm of that size and scope.

    Cons

*Swinging door. Extremely high turnover, plus they hire in large numbers, then lay off in large number approximately every 3-4 years. That along ranks of gross mismanagement, plus they can't retain good help.
*Management doesn't have a clue as to how things are manufactured, lots of soft science and soft business school grads, plus a smattering of engineering grads who couldn't hack it anywhere else but are in management there.
    * They take the whole "right to work" thing to heart and will fire people for minor "offenses".
    * Nobody sane wants to work there so they hire drug addicts, masochists, and sadists.
*They'll lie to out-of-staters about the work conditions and job expectations at Cooper/Apex, and reel people in to cross state lines to work there. Seriously, they need to hire from 5, even 6 states away for a power tools plant?
*Employees are routinely talked down to as if they're pond scum.
*Employees are expected to work 60+ hours/week. They don't care about what you have going on outside work, family issues, etc. You're basically held over a barrel at Cooper/Apex.
*No quality department, and no eye towards quality to begin with. Yet when a quality issue comes up they'll point fingers and blame rank and file employees, even if it's not the employee's fault.
*For every competent person they hire, they'll hire 5 or 6 mouth breathers. You thus end up carrying not only incompetent management on your back, but incompetent fellow employees.
    *Back stabbing is rampant, beware!
*Lots of lecturing from imbeciles in management, people who have no life, hate themselves, etc. You don't want to work for them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just quit and let some more competent people run the place.
