I worked at Cooper Union as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

I worked at invention factory, a summer project where students gather to make their own inventions.
Although my team did not win, I had real positive experiences, hanging out with friends, professors, and bunch of invited guests.
The feedback session was really useful, with all your friends suddenly giving you very critical feedback on your design/idea.
    Overall, extremely positive experience.
Also the food was really good.

    Cons

After sometime, you know who will eventually win, so you stop trying hard.
Also, the professors put more time on those teams that are likely to win, so it was little bit frustrating for our team to proceed with our idea.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Balance your time between teams that are likely to win and those that are not.

I worked at Cooper Union part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent and very professional faculty and staff. Diverse and unique student body, with lots of creative energy and close-knit community.

    Cons

No benefits and few hours available for adjunct faculty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow for growth of adjunct faculty and allow for benefits and more hours for better working conditions.

I worked at Cooper Union part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

A number of positions available for part-time work to build a student's experience for their resume, as well as making a few bucks to off-put the insane cost of living in the city.

    Cons

Pay was mediocre, and hours available were minimal, but not very high intensity. There was a LOT of discourse between the professors of different school and with the administration which stirred a large degree of political drama.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stronger communication between the students, faculty, and administration. That's what caused the huge fiasco that is currently going on.

    Great adjuncting experience

I have been working at Cooper Union as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Cooper Union students are exceptionally talented and wonderful to teach, and the faculty and staff are friendly and appreciative of adjunct instructors. Adjuncts do have limited access to a health care benefit if they have no other source of health care.

    Cons

The technology is somewhat archaic, and this makes things like email, direct deposit, grade assignment and course evaluations somewhat more involved than I have experienced at other institutions. There is significant acrimony between aspects of the faculty and the administration that makes for occasionally unpleasant and awkward conversations.

I worked at Cooper Union as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

It's a great place to learn new things. There are incredible opportunities, where the limits are only what you can't think of.
Have the ability to work with 3D-printers, laser cutters, machining, etc.
You also get to learn a lot about patents, which is great for engineers to know.

    Cons

It was a short time period, so you have to make things quick (but in many ways that's a good thing). You are limited to doing only hardware things, and not purely software (this has to do with getting a patent).

    Pros

The students here are amazing, and I've met some great friends during my time here. The work load can be almost unbearable at times, which is both a pro and a con. They push you to the limit here.

    Cons

    - heavy work load
    - small, so not many resources

I worked at Cooper Union full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, brilliant students, caring faculty, great student:teacher ratio, great personalized touch. Inexpensive cafeteria on site in the New York winter with awesome homemade Kosher sandwiches. Cooper Cooler available upon request (It's a secret trademarked rapid can and bottle chiller that's awesome!)

    Cons

Huge work load, always push to do better and achieve more with less. (Perhaps this is a good thing.) Something strange happens to the new academic building at night. Sort of a transformer with its unusual windows and scaffold... I wish they had more money. They need a really rich couple of donors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There had been some managerial bickering going on, but the entire upper management force has since chanced over the past 3 years or so. (EVERY ONE!)
Note that the info on GlassDoor is outdated.
George Campbell is no longer the President/CEO...
Now it's an awesome music, psychology, neuroscientist professor guy Jamshed with business experience who cares a lot and loves to teach..
