Pros – Hard work not measured by # of hours in the office - work hard, play hard mentality. Employees given full responsibility and encouraged to go outside immediate workstream, take intelligent risks, and think strategically. Full access and support from board of directors. Organization has solid reputation for the work they do, highly respected in the international development community.
Cons – Little to no career/professional guidance from board of directors. Founder disengaged from operations. Review process has improved, but still not qualitative enough. Limited salary and benefits with little chance of improvement.
Advice to Senior Management – More engagement in employee growth, professionalism, and development. The work is interesting and employee dedication is outstanding, but burnout is almost inevitable with the high volume of work and financial pressure. Management could help balance it out with more employee care.
