I worked at Corel full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

great culture and work/life balance. Good pay for a small consumer package company.

    Cons

    I worked at Corel

    Pros

Corel has some great products with very affordable prices that compete with the best of them. The every day employees are the best and hardest working you'll ever work with.

    Cons

The company is owned by a private equity firm that goes through layoffs 2-3x/year and trims budgets to levels that hurt everyone and everything involved, the products, the employees and the customers. It hires way too many contract people, denying them job security, benefits and vacation. People with 10+ years tenure have been laid off w/o notice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want a successful company, I suggest you invest in both the employees and the products instead of seeing how much sweat you can squeeze out of your increasingly unhappy and discouraged employees.

    I worked at Corel full-time

    Pros

Easy going people. Interesting product space.

    Cons

No future for products getting beat by competitors, poor direction and decision making, slow decision making, too much cronyism and politics - getting worse as the company ship sinks even further.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too much internal politics adversely affecting product quality and company longevity.

I worked at Corel as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

It was a co-op job. In my third year. Started off great, although I thought it was a little slow. But it was my first job in the field, so I'm sure they weren't expecting me to hit the ground running anyway.

    Cons

My hiring manager got laid off. At the same, I was supposed to get a few terms out of it but because of the cutbacks, my contract was not renewed. (I was supposed to get a few terms out of it.)
