I have been working at Corner Bakery Cafe full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Decent Salary
    Pretty good bonus structure
    Growth=Opportunity

    Cons

    Inconsistent Management
    Multiple Transfers
    Poor Training
Shifts take up all of the day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be uniformity at all of the stores. Don't transfer people around so much. Corporate officers should be more professional.

I worked at Corner Bakery Cafe part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Got hooked on coffee :-)
Seriously great place to work with fun people and fun customers.
Got the hours I wanted for the most part.

    Cons

At that time few benefits for part timers and no possibility of moving up as many store managers and assistants were often friends/family and or in place long term. Small shops but could have been beter with more equity.

I have been working at Corner Bakery Cafe part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

There are many colorful people with vibrant personalities working in the server, cashier, and cook positions. For the most part, everyone works as a team.

    Cons

Severely understaffed. You'll be working long hours and expected to do way more than is possible in the allotted time if you're working the closing shift. Management failed to train me on several different aspects of the job, including making hot drinks, doing catering orders, and decorating desserts. I was expected to come into work although there was a heavy amount of ice on the roads, but wasn't notified that the restaurant was closed and went to work only to find locked doors. Everyone under management is nice, but management seems to only be working for themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people. The workload on each individual person is really discouraging.

I worked at Corner Bakery Cafe part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

High initial responsibility, formed great rapport with customers.

    Cons

Very high turnover of employees over the course of just a few months. You were not told how long your shift was as it depended on the flow of customers. Did not take breaks so you could finish your shift earlier.

I have been working at Corner Bakery Cafe

    Pros

Health insurance. Store employees try very hard to do the best they can

    Cons

Long work weeks. Under staffed with hourly employees and managers. Raises are horrible and only once a year. Does not matter how the store is performing or what you have done, you only receive a raise once a year. Lots of pressure form upper management to bring money to bottom line

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to needs of staff and follow through with promises made.

I worked at Corner Bakery Cafe (more than a year)

    Pros

    Employees get discounts on meals.
You can move up within the company; however, you have to keep checking up.
good benefits - tuition reimbursement, health insurance etc.

    Cons

Worked there for 2 years and only got a $0.17 raise, while new employees made more than I did.
They try their best to keep you as a part-time employee so that you would not be eligible for benefits.

I worked at Corner Bakery Cafe

    Pros

The environment is great. You get to learn different ways to make coffee, great sandwiches and get up close and personal with Catering. They provide uniforms which is always a plus.

    Cons

It seems like the happiness of a manager in a particular region depends on his/her director and how they run their region. My region was ran by someone who was very hard-nosed and pushy. There was inclement weather and he made everyone stay and work in the midst of it, and then re-opened the next day forcing employees to get back in the same inclement weather that paralyzed the city less than 24 hours before. It gave the impression that business and making money was more important than the safety of their people. There also appeared to be "shady" politics, managers were being told that they were promised certain stores which led to tension amongst other managers, and other low performing GMs not being terminated due to supposed personal connections with leadership. Also the hours vary by location which is unfair once you get used to certain location hours and then you are working much later throughout the night. Also, some managers would be too scared to fire employees with tenure regardless of attitude problem which led to them sometimes running the store. Employees should never be given that type of power unless they are formally promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure you hire leadership, managers and regionals based on quality and not immediate need. Also, stop cutting corners to save costs. Putting dressing in a bag wont save as much money as reducing the number of new stores that end up opening then immediately underperforming.
