    Pros

I met some great coworkers at my location, but the restaurant was mismanaged and highly understaffed. On the other hand, the pastries were downright fantastic.

    Cons

The "regular" managers were actually as personable as the fellow servers/cooks/etc., but the general manager (in charge of the restaurant as a whole) struck me as disconnected, and hardly empathetic. This might not have been his own fault, though, as the restaurant was poorly staffed (one person responsible for the roles of far too many people, etc.). That can make for some pretty stressed out supervisors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate the work of the servers/cooks/other hourly employees; at the end of the day, these are the faces with whom the guests will interact, and it's not in anyone's best interests for them to (understandably) come across as grumpy and overworked.

    Another corporate cafe

    Pros

All the employees seemed really happy, and management is willing to take a chance on anyone.

    Cons

This is a corporation, meaning there is no leeway, no incentive for initiative, no direct oversight or feedback system. It's a place to get money, not a place to enjoy being.

the manager asked what hourly rate I was looking for. He only offered 50 cents over minimum wage

    Cons

mostly men in management, pay is just minimum wage, hourly. ridiculous

    Pros

Strong Team. Supervisor is fair and fun to work with and for. Quality of life is good. Chance for advancement a plus.

    Cons

No benefits, no pay increase in over a year, way below average salary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall doing great on corporate level but give advisement to your franchisees to reward hard work with regular performance increases.

Former Employee - Server in Fountain Valley, CA

    Pros

When I was here, I performed all front of house roles. Everyone was friendly, and everyone was friends with each other. That's what made it fun. Nice 50% employee discount, with free soft drinks. Work was never boring, and it's a great place to train in the food industry, because despite the many tasks & responsibilities, you can move on somewhere else and find it to be a piece of cake in comparison.

    Cons

A LOT of physical work, you need to be able to lift. it will keep you pretty active. Rush hours can become difficult, as it's usually understaffed.

    Pros

They work with my school schedule, which is the reason I stay.

    Cons

Poor management. Pay isn't good, and staff only gets one raise per year, usually a raise of 1%.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You keep hiring for management positions outside of the company instead of moving employees up, making the staff and management apathetic. Much of the in-store management are just there for the money. They have no interest in seeing the store succeed.

    Pros

A great vision with a structured system for advancement to general manager. Systems in place to ensure success.

    Cons

Though the vision is solid, the execution is lacking. To do the job properly as a manager, you will be pulling 14 hour days 6 days a week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Though it is coming, a greater emphasis on back office systems to help out managers on a store level. Implement an online testing system to filter out low quality applicants. More research and planning has to be done before you open a new location, and more time is required to get a solid management team in place, including catering.
