    Live local, work global

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsCollaborative culture, innovative spirit and a company who takes care of their employees. A company whose focus is on innovation and how there products provide life changing innovation. Diversified market segments and a commitment to R&D provides rewarding work and opportunities for enriched careers that few companies can match.

ConsNot much to mention. No company is perfect but there are many more pros that completely outweigh any negatives.

    Research Engineer

    Research Engineer (Former Employee)
    Corning, NY

ProsThe company invests lots of money in research projects and have lots of researchers at the HQ. If you are mediocre, don't be afraid because you can just survive. Here are some tricks that might help: (1) You need to be in a position that allows you to say some project management keywords: "GO", "NO GO"; (2) If you don't know anything about software or hardware, just ask ask somebody else to do it for you; For a small MATLAB program ,you need to have $20k available to pay for a third party to write it for you. Don't feel bad , it's company's money; (3) You must be really good at writing up patents and invention disclosures from nothing new; (4) Hire/manipulate contractors and take the ownership of their work.

ConsNice weather for skiing almost all year long.
Too bad for smart guys over there being taken advantages of.

Not a great place to work

    Production Supervisor (Current Employee)
    Wilmington, NC

ProsDecent salary but management didn't seem to have your back on what was important. There are great leaders working there but they are not in senior positions

ConsVery little development offered for its employees. The manufacturing facilities have an "us vs. them" mentality when it comes to the interactions between management and the unions.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart listening more to those who do the work.

    Nice Culture

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Corning, NY

Prosbig company with small town feel

ConsBig company, promoting growth through change is good, but it can also cause constant insecurity for workers in fear their jobs may disappear any moment.

Advice to Senior Managementget to know the people who work for you by personal interview, not by what someone else has to say.

Very positive experience working at the NY location

    Senior Scientist (Current Employee)
    Corning, NY

ProsCollaborative and innovation driven culture. There is a very distinct family like culture in the organization which sometimes get disrupted from hiring/firing cycle.

ConsRemote location hurt those without family. It is 5 hr drive away from NYC. Nearest city is Rocherster. No other employer near the city and company have to often cut down on employee number to make up for the numbers.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement is doing a good job keeping everyone informed through regular employee meets. There must be something done to better monetize innovation from Corning.

Great experience, learned skills that have served me well

    Process Engineer (Former Employee)

    Pros-Good training opportunities
    -Good culture
    -Good people/co-workers
    -Mature processes

ConsI supported a facility that made products for a consumer-driven market, and when the demand was low, then times were stressful trying to figure out ways to make our sales targets.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to invest in your facilities and employees.

As a scientist, you get good pay, and good opportunities for training

    Senior Research Scientist (Former Employee)
    Painted Post, NY

ProsExcellent seminars and support for web-based and classroom training. Friendly culture. Good pay and bonuses. Good work environment for PhD scientists, less so for lab techs.

ConsPeriodic layoffs with no warning (though you do get severance pay). Too much stratification between scientists, technicians, and production workers.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep investing in R&D to have new and innovative products in the future. Try to streamline workflow in the labs to avoid long wait times to get critical data.
