I have been working at Corptax full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great collaboration-no silly pettiness. Everyone drives hard to hit the mark and there is a sincerity to friendships throughout. Opportunites to grow, even outside current department prevelant.

    Cons

Can get crazy during tax deadlines, and long hours can occur. So often communication can break down and things get missed.

    Advice to Management

Management should be a partner not a taskmaster.

I have been working at Corptax full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Benefits Latest and greatest technology

    Cons

Complete lack of work life balance - you are expected to be on call 24/7/365 Technology leadership is incapable of cogent technology debate (his opinion is ALWAYS right) Technology is run as a totalitarian dictatorship (managers/directors have 0 ability to make decisions) Technology has no real roadmap - priority is on keeping the tires on the ground. High turn-over rate because of problems with Tech Leadership (this is true for tech-ops, dev, db ops etc..)

    Advice to Management

Revamp the technology portion of the organization - the way the org chart looks now will never work in the long run.

    Pros

-Great for people with families -Workplace is quiet (although sometimes too quiet) -Monthly birthday/anniversary celebration -Very little turnover in most departments

    Cons

-Work is dull and repetitive -Few opportunities to actually use one's education -Little to no opportunities for socializing -Absolutely no opportunities for advancement in some departments

    Advice to Management

Please ensure that every department has opportunities for advancement for non-managerial staff.

I have been working at Corptax full-time

    Pros

Coworkers are ready to share knowledge.

    Cons

Without any analysis adopt new technologies. Probs with retaining talent - people quit company. Some managers consider people like a slave and have no respect. When everything goes wrong, somebody becomes a scape goat.

I worked at Corptax full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Good team members - Latest Technology - Work from home opportunities - The company makes a good product and it is being adopted by many customers so there are opportunities based on company growth.

    Cons

    - Excessive turnover in technology staff and management. In past 12 months, heads of App Dev, Product Development, QA and IT Operations have all left. Staff turnover equally high. You are constantly working with someone new in their job. - Senior IT management lacks respect for employee's knowledge or skills. - IT Directors and Managers are OK but have their hands tied and all either give up or leave. - Highly tense environment caused by senior IT management. - Priorities shift frequently and staff takes blame for inability to hit target dates. - Unprofessional and occasionally abusive communication from senior IT management.

    Advice to Management

Senior management knows what the issue is from many exit interviews and knows what would be required to change the situation.

I worked at Corptax full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The software is great with many loyal customers.

    Cons

Poor management is the issue. Releases are not planned and work load is heavy ALL year. Be prepared to work 7 days a week - including holidays! Money is the bottom line, not employees or customers. Poor communication within the executive committee trickles down and causes all the extra man hours.

    Advice to Management

Start implementing true Agile development to focus your work processes more efficiently. Really give your employees respect and learn their value. Train management at all levels - some Directors are poor leaders and have been promoted due to seniority and not because of their skills. Many inappropriate and disrespectful remarks by leadership create a negative work environment. I feel lucky to have escaped this sweatshop mentality.
