Pros
It is an all around great place to work. Great benefits and they really take care of their employees. They are really willing to teach you the business in order to help you advance.
Cons
Seniority is king. A person can be with Costco for 20+ years and pretty much not do anything but still be employed somehow. A lot of times they aren't even disciplined for not doing their job. At that point the only thing that would get them in trouble/fired would be stealing.
Pros
Great benefits,above average pay,yearly bonuses
Cons
Management plays favoritism, depending on location where you work-little chance for promotion unless management likes you
Pros
Easy to get in and stay, but advancement is slow. Company seems to prefer people that are not that educated or smart. The jobs offered are repetitious and mindless. People that think and have some formal education seem to be frowned upon. This may be a good job with someone with a high school education, but if you have some kind of college degree you will find this company mind numbing.
Cons
Low salary. Caliber of supervisors and managers is poor to mediocre
Pros
The benefits with Costco are amazing! I do not know of many places that offer full time benefits to part time employees. There are also stock options and 401k options. The hours are good and the management does work with you if you have 2 jobs or school. I wouls say that this job is great for students, or people that wish to make some extra cash and have fun. There is possibility for growth if you pu your time and effort into it.
Cons
There are not many full time postions available due to the job being so well no one wants to really move up. The store that I am in rarley has full time postings due to Costco wanting to work people harder and cutting hours. So the people that have full time are stable do not wish tho give that up or move up since with overtime they can make almost as much as management. The part timers make less and with that you can have more part time postions available. This makes it hard to move up with Costco. Some people are with the company 4-5 years before they can reach full time status.
Advice to Senior Management
I believe that the management should lower the hours in between pay raises, if they want to part time people so much for little pay. 11.00 to start is great but when you only work 24 hours a week that the same as 30 hours on min wage. so for 8.74 at 40 hours a week is more that 24 hours for 11.00 an hour. I know there is room for growth but the full time positions are limited for each store. I love Costco and am trying to make it my career but I can't even pay my bills in the mean time. Is there a way to stop cutting hours when the company is actually profiting? I am a buisness major so I understand a lot more then most people ,I get it more bonuses more of this and that. I just believe you have to spend money to make money.
Pros
Decent Pay and benefits. job Stability. management works with your schedule.
Cons
Almost no turnover creates over-competitive environment for promotion
Advice to Senior Management
More objective hiring procedures.
Pros
Reliable, secure job. Great hours, pride.
Cons
Not much room to advance in the buying office.
Pros
Costco is a great place to work for any kind of person. It is a very friendly working environment, Costco offers exceptionally good pay, health benefits, and 401K.
Cons
Costco, just like any job has it's disadvantages. But this has nothing to do with staff or managers. The location i am employed at has had plenty of rude customers (members). It's like Who do these people think they are? Is the attitude i get from them at times.
Advice to Senior Management
Management at Costco is always helpful and there for you as we are all one big family. Thats my take on not only staff, but most employees in the warehouse.
Pros
good starting pay, Costco is a good job for those who are in school. They are flexible , plus working on the weekand with time and a half can cover expenses if you live at home.
Cons
You get the most undesirable hours for sometime until you have been there for several years, t seems to be mostly about the members and a lot less about the employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Costc (well the Croydon site) gives the impression that it is a 'great place' to work for and is exactly like the U.S. sites. Well as far as I can see it isn't
They tell you that they'll train but instead they'll tell you to go and do this and that with no other instruction.
Pros
Great pay (11/hr) to start
TIme and a half on Sundays and overtime
Lots of overtime available and offered
Nice management and staff
Very straightforward work
Casual Dress Code
Cons
Customers can be extremely rude
Lots and lots of heavy lifting
Advice to Senior Management
I was very pleased with the management at Costco in Merrillville. I really have nothing to say.
Pros
The benifits and pay are very good. Flexible sched for those who are going to school or have another job.
Cons
Hours of work are not consistant each week. No set sched. which i know comes along with retail but they are still very bad. Employees are treated very poorly by managers. Most managers talk to employees as if they are not real people. Most managers will not listen to anything an employee has to say. Some departments are required to take on the work load of other departments along with their own without any compensation. So you are doing double if not triple the work of a normal employee without any extra pay or even a kind word. The fact that costco pays better and has better benefits then most retail jobs is constantly thrown in your face by managers.
Advice to Senior Management
Send someone to each store undercover as a new employee to check up on how management is treating their hourly workers. You would find out that most employees are treated terribly and that your management is made up of yes men who kiss the feet of the wearhouse managers. You would also see that the managers spend most of their day on their cell phone making personal calls. Also I don't think you would be happy to know that they are talking on their cell phones while driving fork lifts.
