Pros
They have good benefits and pay. You do get to meet a lot of new people from all over the world.
Cons
The downside of Costco is thee very little respect. All departments are ran differently and all management plays by different rules. The biggest con is for me is getting time off and your work schedule. They will change your schedule up too a few hours before and and WILL NOT call you to ask you if ok or not to change schedule or tell you. If you don't come on there time you get written up. A lot of the time the schedule not posted until the day before the new work week. How are suppose to have a life that? On;y way to move up is to be friends or family member of some one in the warehouse you are working at. In my option is not fair at all. The management just doesn't listen you at all,
Advice to Senior Management
My advice to Costco management is to respect your employees and listen to them. Please put out the schedule up in a timely manger and call us about changes, Talk to your employees like people not your ruts.
Pros
Great medical benefits.
Competitive pay for comparable positions.
Ability to advance pay and position with no education required.
Promotions on seniority
Cons
Full time positions virtually non existent.
Unprofessional upper management
Lack of encouragement to team. Admitted to finding a negative fault in employees for end of year review to keep employees from thinking they don't need to try.
Treat employees like disposable commodities.
Promotions given to favorites.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to build your team with positive encouragement. This practice creates a productive workforce even when management is not present.
Pros
advancement opportunities for anyone willing to go the extra mile.
Cons
sometimes your supervisor wants you to come in at 1am or earlier to get things done, even if its the day after thanksgiving or christmas.

Cons
Schedule changes on a moments notice. Not very receptive to consistent time off.
Advice to Senior Management

Pros
Opportunity for advancement
Fun work environment
Very helpful coworkers
Cons
Management needs a little work
Pros
The compensation package is the best in the industry. As a result, people tend to stay a long time -- there is very little turnover. You can make some great long lasting friendships there.
Cons
With there being very little turnover, opportunities for advancement do not come along very often. Other than that, nothing else is really that bad.... they have the same BS that every other company experiences.
Pros
Good pay copaired to similar jobs. Good health, dental, and eye care benifots. Management is good most of the time.
Cons
You will reach a point when your career can not go any further and you have no way to move up.
Pros
Flexible hours
Decent starting pay
Combo pizza for breaks
Cons
Horrible management
No job growth
Treat you improperly
Advice to Senior Management
Pushing carts every shift for 8 hours a day with no rotation what so ever is not the "easiest" job in the building especially when your alone each of those shifts in a parking lot the size of your local mall. Instead of watching us push carts maybe you guys should help us. And instead of trying to get the biggest bonus possible, how about you start to generate more jobs within the building and give employees opportunities .
Pros
Costco has exceptional benefits, to its employes, at the same time the company has flexible hours for students whom can study and also maintain a part time job without much hassle or overlapping.
Cons
The Costco that i work at has a lot of favouritism management tend to favour the few people that they often communicate with and leave the the many hard working employees out. Any upper positing such as a lead position or A skill positions are pointless when posted on the board because management has already picked who gets the job before even interviewing other employees. At times many employees get discouraged because they wont even receive an interview when applied for these positions, because management has already decided to give it to there favourite employee even if that particular employee is not qualified for that position.
Advice to Senior Management
please be fair and don't just favour people you like, favour hardworking people.
Pros
Decent starting pay.
Decent benefits package if you stay long enough to qualify.
You can make some great lifelong friends.
Cons
Management always favors friends or relatives. Nepotism and favoritism are solidly embedded in the system. It causes a deep wound to the morale of the hard working (non-related) hourly employees. Management has little or no training - it shows. They are keen to put on a good show for the public but when the doors close - look out. They do not practice safe working procedures. Being safety conscious is considered 'wimpy'. Pay raises take too long to get. 800 hours between raises when it used to be less than 300 only a few years ago. Don't air any grievances. You will suffer for your trouble. Don't offer suggestions for improvement. You will not be taken seriously.
Advice to Senior Management
First of all, Jim Sinegal was a great leader. He was rated 5-star. Sadly, he has been replaced by a board of directors. I think Jim actually cared about his people. Things have changed.
Upper Management: Perform unannounced visits - catch the store managers by surprise and you will see what truly goes on. Take time to speak to the hourly employees - ALONE! If you let a manager witness the conversation, the employee will know better than to tell you the truth. Decrease the time between pay raises. Stop decreasing benefits while giving insignificant annual pay raises. At least give raises that keep up with inflation. Eliminate nepotism and favoritism. Fire abusive or unprofessional managers. Don't just move them to another location. Set up a proper channel to air grievances and properly investigate them. Take the complaints seriously! Take the complaints seriously! Take the complaints seriously! Take steps to increase the value of the company. Make it a company that is worth staying with.
Store Management: Get a grip on yourselves. Stop berating employees. Stop promoting friends and relatives. Stop HIRING friends and relatives. Require those earning top dollar to actually work for it. Too many just put in time but do no work. I got tired of hearing "I paid my dues...now I get to take it easy". Reward a good work ethic. Hold meetings and ask for suggestions on how to improve things. A good management skill to have is the ability to listen to the people who work for you. Some of the people I worked with were very intelligent and had some great ideas. They were ignored though because they were part-time, had not been there long enough, were not related to management or they were just plain resented because they thought of something management did not. Fire employees that abuse the system or come to work without any intention of actually working and stop saying "Don't worry about it, it is Jim's money - not mine". If I were 'Jim', I would fire you for being careless with company property and assets and lessening the value of the company I worked so hard to build.
