Pros
Stability, equal opportunity, Strong senior management.
Cons
Not as many promotional opportunities as I would like to see.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer compensation for hard workers, layoff people that don't perform.
Pros
job security is there
decent pay depending on how long you've been there
good coworkers mostly
good benefits packages
easy work
Cons
easy work
lack of incentive to work hard if raises aren't merit based
promotion or upward mobility is difficult and seniority based
Advice to Senior Management
change the way promotions are handed out, if someone is willing to put in the work or stands out then utilize them
Pros
Flexible schedule for college student. 1.5 pay on sunday.
Cons
job is repetitive . Will not learn any valuable skills
Advice to Senior Management
total lack of communication between employees and managers. The only feeback that occurs is during the annual review, and this is done by a puervior , not a manager.
Pros
Costco promotes from within, so career growth opportunities are available for those that work hard and apply themselves.
Cons
No time off in your first year of employment makes it tough for many.
Pros
The best reasons to work at Costco are: the benefits, the consistent work load (high), the overtime and sunday pay, the break periods, and the lack of having to go to a gym because of the physical nature of the job.
Cons
The downsides are: no control over where you start as an employee, can get stuck in departments that are unsatisfying, communication problems between new and old employees, lack of training, and no merit system. Employees that have been with Costco forever and can not be fired is a big problem because their are allot of bad seeds that we cannot get rid of.
Advice to Senior Management
The lack of recognition for completing hard work every moment of the day is stressful to employees. A simple pat on the back or possibly a manager sparing 6 buck to buy his team a hot dog would not be to much to ask for. Lack of education and principles of management are a major problem. Remember those who have gotten through college that work for our business because they are the backbone of the company.
Pros
goodpay for someone w no degree, good benefits, flexible hours, warehouse social events, free membership, easy tasks, time &1/2-on sunday
Cons
Limited ability to advance quickly, repetitive work, have-to work weekends, hours can-be inconvenient, managers can be too controlling, excessive supervision
Advice to Senior Management
Get scanners at the door, too many people shoplift and memberservice does not adequately check receipts.
Pros
Cross-trained to work in several departments. Most co-workers were friendly. Enjoyed helping members find items in warehouse.
Cons
Had to work most weekends. Sometimes they changed my schedule few days before week started.
Advice to Senior Management
Employee of Month should go to those who work hard, not to those who suck up to managers.
Pros
Starting off compensation and health insurance benefits are great. Great products. Great for college students.
Cons
Micromanagement, low moral, favoritism, no work life balance, burnout, gossip, boring, repetitive, disorganized, poor equipment, no diversity, hypocrites, weak culture.
Advice to Senior Management
Lose the EGO, listen more, read management books, be flexible, manage yourself first, be sincere, delegate workload better, be approachable.
Pros
Good starting salary for part time work. Easy to schedule around your full time job, if you have one in the Obama area.
Cons
Managerial incompetence abound. Too many supervisors and not enough knowledge to go around. Seems they are stuck on auto pilot since raises are given based on time worked not quality work.
Advice to Senior Management
Know more about the company. If you are asked a question you darn well better know the answer especially when it comes to policies and procedures.
Pros
Excellent benefits for yourself and your family. Less than $100 for full coverage including yourself and a dependent.
Cons
Senior mgmt doesn't think things through before delegating, excellent end results but significant amounts of extra work prior to end result. A ton of employees with tenure who are lazy and are almost impossible to get rid of. Quarterly statements always showed Costco with higher earnings yet in store that resulted somehow in tighter payroll.
Advice to Senior Management
Kick out the bad seeds and those that just don't care anymore. Reward those that work hard and want to advance.
