I worked at Costco Wholesale full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good Pay, Benefits, Vacation Time

    Cons

Many well paid, uneducated people running the warehouses with no people skils.
Costco definately does not encourage their "seasoned employees" as I was called.
They weed out capped out hourly wage earners (usually employed there for 12 - 15 years) so they can...as they say "get 2 new hires for the price of one " hourly employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take courses on managing employees effectively. LISTEN, really listen to your employees. They really do know more than you on the feel of the public.

    Pros

Excellent pay, great benefits for retail.

    Cons

Hours vary for hourly, especially part-timers. Management can be clique-ish and very hard to move up into.

    I worked at Costco Wholesale

    Pros

The people are nice and friendly. The benefits are great. Everyone seems to care for one another until....

    Cons

They no longer have a use for you. They fired me with out any real reason. They told me "I wasn't good enough" but wouldn't go into specifics. Management also has some communication issues, even down to the dress code. I only got one counseling notice and it was on the day I was fired, and the incident that it was referring to was a month old.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate more, and get everyone on the same page. Not everyone has time to read the "little red book" from cover to cover.

    I worked at Costco Wholesale

    Pros

Good work for when you are in college. Costco pays well and provides healthcare benefits even if you're only part-time.

    Cons

Promotion can be hard since the system is based off of seniority. On rare occasion, you'll be promoted due to your efforts. Sometimes it does go unseen, so standing out is a must.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your employees and they'll take care of you.

I worked at Costco Wholesale as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

People are nice and most have a great attitude. Work hours are variable as needed. Managers are very good and they will get what you need. Folks are happy to work with you and help you.

    Cons

Good food is hard to get at Sammamish Park Place. Some folks need screen prints to know what you stated. Frustration can be high since progress can be slow. Permission accesses are sliced and diced thinly and must be continually requested.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Union vs. Non-union?

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Costco Wholesale

    Pros

Great co-workers; managers will schedule motivated employees more hours upon request

    Cons

Union dues for seasonal employees, regardless of whether you will be kept on or let go in January. Seems that Union stores pay lower hourly wages, and a more productive employee may not be chosen for certain things based on seniority.
