I have been working at Costco Wholesale part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Promotions, salary, dressing casually, employees are all friends.

    Cons

Management expects you to work over full time and for up to 14 days in a row (that happened to me only once). And you can't ever ask for a weekend off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think it is important to treat every employee with respect. I believe the company as a whole does this, but management in the individual stores does not. I have worked at Costco for 3 summers and every summer I work until 10 PM, over full time, no days off, and NEVER a Saturday off - even when requested. I don't get any time with my family.

I worked at Costco Wholesale part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You can get $11+/hr working part time up front as a starting salary, with incredible events even as remaining part time

    Cons

All about the members (not customers), they pay for a better experience. Managers are often hard butts, takes a while to build a report

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't treat your employees like trash as soon as they start

Good co-workers who were there to actually do their job.

I have been working at Costco Wholesale

    Pros

Better hours than many other retailers, major holidays off. Great pay and benefits. Opportunity for advancement if you are a hard worker.

    Cons

It's retail. Very hectic almost all the time, even when it's slow due to cutting hours to save payroll. Difficult to get into company in anything above base part time hourly employee, even with experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of people who slip through the cracks that are slow and lack dedication.

I have been working at Costco Wholesale full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Perks are that you can eat samples and the people are great. The People make the experience most Costco employee are generous and friendly.

    Cons

The job can get redundant quick depending on waht you are working on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I wished the General Manager would make an effort in his busy schedule to talk to all the employees more often. Or pop up during closing and casually speak with the employees.

I have been working at Costco Wholesale

    Pros

Consistent pay scale that is really easy to understand, paid vacation and sick days. Once you have a job with the company you have to really mess up to lose it. Easy to get days off when you request them in advance depending on the department. Able to train in other departments and transfer within the warehouse easily from your starting position to where you want to be.

    Cons

Hard to move up in the company if you aren't willing to play the system politics. Schedule changing instead of a consistent schedule is a pain. Who you know is more important then what you know most of the time when it comes to getting hired or getting a promotion within the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop treating management and supervisors as if they are above everyone else. Keep in mind how qualified people are for a position not just if they are good at interviewing and don't be afraid to get input from senior employees. Watching people get promoted who were just not good at the job and treat employees poorly is very frustrating and demoralizing.
