I worked at Coty full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Great chances to grow, many opportunities for professional development arise
    - Full of really intelligent people

    Cons

    - One has to develop an extra layer of skin, environment can be cutthroat which is why you have to many sure you know what you're doing.
    - Typical beauty/fashion world, if you're not into dressing the part or being on trend, it's difficult to fit in

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Upper management relies far too much on middle management, and middle management isn't really as experienced or as mature as needs to be. A review of hiring practices for middle managers would be greatly beneficial, they need to find more people that make you want to work there instead of run for the hills.

    I worked at Coty full-time

    Pros

The pay is always what draws you in, the people is what makes you run from the door screaming

    Cons

They lack ethics. They share information that they shouldn't. If a certain large box store found out, they would be dropped. The group culture is gossip because they all worked at every job together, were roommates in college, went to high school together, etc so they form a "mean girls" world.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on making a true team, not a business run by people who follow each other from one job to another.

    Disappointing Experience

    I worked at Coty

    Pros

Huddle rooms and conference rooms in the Empire State Building are impressive and all have new technology.

    Cons

Really long work hours. Office space in the Empire State Building is very open and desks are crammed one next to the other. You can see the person in front of you or next to you picking their teeth or their nose! You have no privacy even in the tiny phone rooms.

    Pros

Depending who your boss was, company information was known. Coty has their own site which they update from time to time so you know what's new and what their future objectives are.

    Cons

Too much "click groups". A lot of gossip. You're either in or out. Favoritism plays a big part in this company. Much staff turn over. Leaders and staff need to have a cutthroat attitude in order to succeed in this company.

I have been working at Coty full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Growing company with lots of opportunity. The company knows what it wants to become and is on clear path to achieving its market growth goals.

    Cons

Disorganized HR, little to no employee development or progression plans in place and communicated. The result is people don't know how to develop their skills, gain experience or navigate the company's organization. No mentors or encouragement from the top to mentor and develop.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate. Use details. We can all read the financials now that we are public.

I have been working at Coty full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The Coty mantra rings true: "Faster. Further. Freer." From my perspective it's a great place to work as there is little vertical bureaucracy. Things get done much quicker at Coty than at any other large organization I've worked for because there are fewer layers of approvals. There are long-standing employees who have been with the company through many eras of changes, which is a good indicator of what type of organization this is. Overall, the people are also very nice and mostly collaborative, as the culture encourages this. It is a great place to work for young people wanting to start off their career as in general, there is early exposure to senior management.

    Cons

This depends very much team by team, but overall there is not a lot of internal promoting that happens within the organization. Thus, people get frustrated and leave. This is an issue that needs to be addressed. For Marketers, there are a wealth of brands and teams to work on but little communication and visibility as to movement from within despite the fact that a team was developed to help alleviate this issue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This advice is for senior level executives: People will not always remember the list of great things you achieved, but they certainly will remember you as a person. You don't want to have a reputation to proceed you as a bad leader - the industry is small. Treat your employees well.

This advice is for both senior level executives and C-suite management: The health of the company is dependent on executing a more strategic, long-term vision. Like many under-performing beauty companies, Coty is following suit in that it's focused on putting band-aids on short term problems versus addressing large, long term issues.

Stay for Work-Life balance; leave because no growth

I have been working at Coty full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great work-life balance depending on the department. Summer Fridays and week off between Christmas and New Year's is everything. Packages are very nice. The teams do become very close and try to put their best foot forward. The company really has put forth the effort in giving their employees a 360 experience.

    Cons

Need improvement on training from bottom up as high turnover and switches make it very hard to move forward efficiently as the culture is too fast paced.
Issues with no growth. Coty has lost many great employees because they failed to recognize soon enough what they had and then hire new staff that are sub-par and can't keep up with the constant change.
HR needs to educate themselves on what each department does and in learning how to investigate when complaints are made (i.e placing it into context and understanding background).
