Steady Job if are looking to get started or want to finish before retirement

    Corrections Officer (Current Employee)
    West Chester, PA

ProsReliable job that you know will always be there. Never a dull day if your working on the law enforcement side.

ConsYour a number and easily replaceable. Raises are hit or miss with the economy. Unless your a rising star your career here will flatline after a few years. Spend no more then 5 years in the same position or you will begin to vegetate and get in a rut.

Advice to Senior ManagementStay out of the way of the individual who has ideas, vision and sees the possibilities. Don't take another's ideas while blocking them to repackage them six months down the road as your ideas!

    Worst place to work!!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThere are not any pros for working for this piece of crap county!! I am in the process of getting out of this hell hole!

ConsThey don't know how to treat their employees. In the past 5 years they stopped giving raises and bonuses. And then bragged publicly how well they are doing financially. Very low morale working here. They haven't replaced employees who have retired or quit leaving more work for current employees and not compensating them. They have no respect or appreciation for their loyal employees!! I don't recommend working here at all!!!!!

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Not a good place to work!! They treat the employees like children!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    West Chester, PA

ProsAt least has half decent benefits.

ConsEmployees of the Human Service Departments are micro-managed to the fullest extent. Innovation and suggestions for improvement are not welcomed. The Human Service Departments are basically micromanaged by two individuals. Keep your mouth shut and put up with whatever comes your way you want to remain. People are constantly being fired for very little. They do not care about retention of employees or whether or not the work is satisfying for the employees. Recent budget cuts have made most jobs almost unbearable! Morale could not be worse than it is at present. Not a good place to work at right now!

Advice to Senior ManagementMaybe listen to the employees. Meet with them and actually listen to any suggestions. Make it appear as though you care about the employees and that you want to keep them.

Love the residents, not so much the management.

    Registered Nurse (Current Employee)
    West Chester, PA

ProsThe residents and their families are great.

ConsVery top heavy. It is a county owned and operated facility, so $$ is thrown about willy-nilly when it comes to management level people. Short-handed on the floor, laundry, kitchen, etc.

Not a good place to work if you are young and / or ambitious

    Business Analyst (Former Employee)
    West Chester, PA

ProsSomewhat stable work environment. Nice people in the IT department. Very good benefits and retirement plan that includes matching up to 5%. Great sick time policy which allows for 12 days per year which can be accrued and used in the future.

ConsNo opportunity for career advancement. You can quickly become stale if you stay employed in a local government position and this can lead to future employers looking down on your experience. Compensation is not in line with private industry.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt will continue to be difficult to find and keep good talent without career advancement and educational opportunities. It is also difficult for women to move up in this department as it is male dominated and the director had only promoted men the entire time I worked for the organization even though there were qualified women candidates.
