    Ability to make an impact in the community, enthusiastic and dedicated staff, flexible work schedules, benefits coverage, potential for future advancement, architecturally interesting work environment

    Expensive benefits, internal training availability (amount and frequency of classes offered), technologically outdated in many respects with slow process for change

    The focus on workforce development (workforce strategic plan, career development initiatives, performance management changes, etc.) and building a more collaborative environment are welcomed and should continue. The organization needs to offer more training for staff at all levels to develop their knowledge/skills.

    Pros

    Short working hours and very low expectations. This allows hard working people the latitude to do what they want and make strong contributions. No profit motive is nice too. You aren't breaking your back so the chairman can have a bigger yacht.

    Cons

    Hey, it's government. A lot of money gets spent and not a lot gets done. They think they work hard and are productive, but they aren't. They just don't compare themselves to anyone in private industry or even other government agencies. There is a lot of talk about change and making improvements, but since there is no reason to, the few who don't want to change stop everything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Just because private industry does something doesn't mean it is evil and greedy. Try learning about budgets, performance metrics, and executing a strategy. If it is done to provide value to the citizens it's a good thing. Executive leadership needs to weed their senior managers that can't execute a professional management plan.

    Great clinical experience and schedule flexibility. Fair benefits, good vacation, sick, and holiday pay.

    Cons

    Little room for growth. Little support or leadership. Minimal accountability or consequences for unprofessional behavior.

    Show up to work, be available and accountable, get to know your staff and their needs. Respond to staff concerns in a timely fashion. Provide positive feedback.
