I worked at County of San Bernardino

    Pros

Pay. That's all I can think of, but so not worth the stress.

    Cons

Very immature coworkers. A lot of drama and gossip. Very clique-ish. The only way to promote is to suck up, sleep your way to the top or be part of the "in" crowd.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote based on experience, merit and ability to do the job, not on who has sucked up the most.

I have been working at County of San Bernardino

    Pros

Good employer once you are hired, classified staff have good pay and consistent step increases based on merit

    Cons

Application and hiring process are long (2-6 months or longer), 9 month contract employers are required to pay additional funds towards medical even of your time to extend through the year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a better look at how the medical for 9 month contract employers is being taken out

I have been working at County of San Bernardino full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good retirement plan, time off....Recently one now has to pay the County pick up of retirement. Losing money now. Effectively haven't received a raise in 10 years. Good place to work if you have average to low skills, if you are highly motivated and need a challenge, find a private sector job

    Cons

Work with unmotivated people. Always do as little as possible. No consequences for the lazy. Impossible to get fired. Great place to go and do nothing. County union is a puppet of County leadership. They have no negotiating power.

I worked at County of San Bernardino full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Coworkers are great, schedule is great, pay is okay.

    Cons

Customers aren't nice, union does nothing for employees, no pay increases for years at a time. Promotions aren't based on merit. They are based on who they like or who filed the most recent complaint with union threatening to sue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Merit based promotions should be exercised. Change unions.
