Pros

Credit Union
Car Auction
Benefits
Cafeteria (Not Alpharetta Location)
Work Environment (at Cox Enterprises)
Cons
Management knowledge of IT
Management competence
Allowing incompetent people to stay in their positions because they have been there for so long
Advice to Senior Management
Every new manager that comes in comes with their own agenda that is never questioned. Why do you allow a new manager to come in and get rid of people in a whole department because they want to bring in their own people.
Pros
Great talented professionals. Good career challenges. Leadership is solid.
Cons
Large organization with processes that can slow you down. Uneven distribution of work, some teams do not have enough resources while others have excess.
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in growing your management, do not let good talent leave Cox for growth opportunities
Pros
The best reasons to work for Cox Communications are, first and foremost, the Cox culture. The company actively promotes diversity in the workplace, and embraces personal accountability. Attrition is relatively low at Cox because of a company secret: employee job satisfaction is the secret ingredient for customer satisfaction. Finally, at Cox, employees all share in the company's success, and they have many options to take their careers in the direction they want. They can even relocate to another Cox market, from coast to coast.
Cons
Having to work for a living, otherwise, its a good company.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work!
Pros
Good people to work with, excellent salary and working conditions. I receive time of as requested and the company often lets employees go early before holidays.
Cons
Office space allocated to junior project managers over highly experienced Senior Software Engineers.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your most talented senior technical experts better than Project Manager people just out of college. It is a morale and respect thing, you know.
Pros
Overall, its a good company to work for.
Cons
The communication between management and the employees is lacking. Also, the communication between departments is greatly lacking.
Advice to Senior Management
Make sure that the decisions you feel are best for the company are also what's best for the employees. Think about all of the individual contributors who make Cox run.
Pros
Cox offers the ability to participate in financial, marketing, and technical aspects of the business regardless of your current position. Feedback is appreciated, although not always followed. 90% of my co-workers care about the job they perform and quality of their work, which I attribute to the culture fostered by management. Bi-annually the company conducts an employee opinion survey to understand where time, money, and efforts should be applied to improvement HR, company focus, management, and products.
Cons
Cox operates it's services in silos. There is very little interaction between the main product lines such as voice, video, data, and wireless. Opportunities for full interaction between the groups should be fostered and in some cases required by management to reduce product time to market, provide a consistent company service package, and maximize investment.
Advice to Senior Management
Create a clear and consistent product strategy across all lines of business.
Pros
Not only are they a stable company with excellent growth every year, but they also treat their employees with absolute loyalty. The benefits are fantastic (at least for singles... I cannot speak for families), the area for growth is available and defined and I feel that my contributions are appreciated on a weekly basis. Diversity is encouraged regularly and I do not have to worry about traveling constantly or excessive work hours.
Cons
I feel the pay is not competitive enough but their benefits exceed.
Advice to Senior Management
Do not allow buddy clubs to withhold information.
Pros
Support for work life balance
Cons
Low value of education, too much emphasis on diversity
Advice to Senior Management
Hire smart, talented, educated people without regard to race and give them the authority to do their job.
Pros
Very stable company with decent benefits. There is passing recognition given to a work/life balance. Flexible working conditions are limted.
Cons
As with most larger companies there is lot of politics surrounding the business. Salary guidelines are dated especially in emerging fields where limited talent exists. That limits the talent that can be aquired and limits the employees options for staying when that salary ceiling has been reached.
Advice to Senior Management
Look at the work/life balance seriously and give more flexibility in work options (work from home, flex hours, etc.)
Pros
Cox is a great place to grow as an employee. The company believes in promoting from within and provides the training needed to advance to the next level.
Cons
As Cox moves into a more standardized world, the leadership structure is becoming even more hierarchical. What used to be an innovative company with a truly open-door policy is slowly evolving into a top-down driven architecture that relies less on lower-level employees to innovate and inspire.
Advice to Senior Management
Management is great at conducting employee opinion surveys bi-annually, but the frequency should be increased to annually given the rapidly-changing nature of the business. Also, the survey should include open-ended questions.
