It is a local company this visible in the community
Cons
Sometimes the transitions are hard when it comes to layoffs and the different managers.
Pros
There were some talented employees at my site.
Cons
They don't care about supporting employees to ensure success in their position.
Advice to Senior Management
I don't have any feedback to offer the leadership team.
Pros
Still growing, overall performing very well, interesting technology, ethical and moral company
Cons
Culture changing, recent huge turnover in senior management
Advice to Senior Management
Too much change and it's happening too slowly.
Pros
Awesome discounts on cable, internet and phone service
Great benefits
Cons
Top heavy with little growth opportunity
Struggling against competitors
Pros
Fairly decently pay and pretty good benefits. It is definitely an employee-centric company. As an example, I got an e-mail one day talking about changes to the vacation program. It was an across-the-board increase in vacation days for everyone. Normally when you see a change to benefits, it negatively impacts the employee, regardless of how management tries to sell it.
Cons
Hardcore politicking can leave mediocre groups looking like superstars to the point where on VP meetings people get applauded for showing up while teams working 60 hour weeks are ignored. Some managers pinch pennies in the hopes it makes them look like superstars but they're oblivious to the fact upper management could care less about that when it comes time to cut headcount.
Advice to Senior Management
Like so many executives in this country, they begin to believe their own hype and infallibility. Cox Communications is spending billions of dollars building a new line of business using last generation technology. As such, the business units that are profitable are getting cut to continue to throw money into the abyss.
Look at what your sister companies (Comcast, Time Warner) are doing and more importantly, not doing. If Comcast and Time Warner don't think it is a good idea to spend tens of billions on something, how can Cox do it with millions? Laying off profitable business units to fund deficits is a recipe for disaster.
Pros
I started at $12 an hour and was at $22 in 2 years, but only because I was an awesome field tech and rose quickly.
Cons
Management is incompetent. They treat subordinates like idiots and change the playbook every 2 seconds. You are never allowed to get comfortable with your job because there are changes flying at you constantly. Stressful to say the least.
Advice to Senior Management
Get a program and stick with it. Allow your employees to really dig in and get comfortable in their role without making changes to job duties all the time. Could a professional athlete get good at his sport if the size of the ball or length of the field was constantly changing? Think about it.
Pros
Growth, Plenty of opportunity if willing to travel, Good Pay, Benefits, Diversity, The company definitely takes care of its employee's.
Cons
Co-worker Competence, Hire non-technical staff to support customers with technical issues. Customers may be difficult to deal with just like any customer support job.
Advice to Senior Management
So far so good. I enjoyed my time with Cox and with upper level management in my area were very helpful!
Pros
stable and growing business and basically nice treatment of employees
Cons
lack of sufficient professional growth
Pros
Co-workers
Used to promote from within
Many systems to work in
Discounted cable
Cons
They really do target people with 10+ years to eliminate
They keep worthless or disrespectful employees over respectful people with integrity and proper skills
Hiring many new people that have no understanding of the business, only numbers
Focus on training that has nothing to do with improving skills
Do not listen to employees, but always pretend to
Created an environment of fear and mistrust
Advice to Senior Management
The people who built this company used to be the biggest asset, you should listen to those willing to move with the times. Stop promoting things like "Trust Begins with Me". Trust needs to begin with management, not frontline. Expecting trust without earning it is a joke. Frontline through mid-level management do not trust HR or upper management anymore; nor have they in quite some time. Stop lying to everyone and making decisions without employee input, or when asking for input- listen, instead of just making it look like you are listening. Employees are not stupid and see this for what it is. Get back to earning the employee trust, give them the workload of one person versus two, remove the fear of becoming tenured and employees will take care of the company and customer. Jim Robbins would be ashamed of how things are right now.
