I worked at Cox Communications full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Company took care of employees, a lot of opportunity to make money with contests and raffles. Very flexible with schedule

    Cons

Job was very stressful, because of high prices for services a lot of calls where from unhappy customers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To offer competitive rates cut jobs that are not necessary. I saw a lot of office people not doing much of anything all day just chatting with coworkers.

    Pros

Great company values, really supports employees and community. They also have great employee benefits and a pension. Good work and life balance.

    Cons

There is a lot of transformation in the company right now. Upper management keeps information pretty close to the cuff, so it's hard to anticipate what will change. However, I don't feel like the company would drop down hard news on you without plenty of warning.

I have been working at Cox Communications full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Cox is a very good company to work for. Although the culture has changed over the past several years this is a place where leadership values its employees and wants to do the best for the employees, business and the community. Cox is a good company with many good people.

    Cons

Promotional opportunities. Because this is a company with many long term employees it is relatively long wait for advancement opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look for areas of growth to expand the business.

I worked at Cox Communications full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

great pay and excellent benefits, tuition assistance, good medical, and dental plans, good working environment, great people to work with. Really good opportunities if you are mobile, have a degree, and willing to relocate to another state.

    Cons

A lot of change is occurring currently so many people are having to relocate or find other work outside of CA. Culture is changing, used to be much more pro employee, still head and shoulders above most companies.
You WILL need a degree to advance so expect to have one or get one.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay close attention to your people as you transition them, especially leaders. Many are wearing too many hats and are overworked.

I worked at Cox Communications full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great work culture, tons of perks and recognition. Decent pay as well. Overall fun place to work with good products.

    Cons

Changing team managers wasn't always fun. Some micro manage more than others. Vacation would often jeopardize you're commission if you weren't careful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Back your top stars more and don't let them fall victim to the "The customer is always wright" perspective because that is not always the case.

I have been working at Cox Communications full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great work/life balance, engaging/professional team, great growth opportunity and benefits (cable/low cost healthcare/pension), open-door policy

    Cons

Compensation, Centralization strategy on-going, No cable benefits outside foot-print

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For long-term health of company we need to focus on reducing customer costs and creating long-term value (vs. short term campaign spend) thereby reducing transactions in support, marketing, advertisement and encouraging volatility. The company too often appears to follow business peers reducing differentiation and encouraging subscriber loss. Centralization may be a necessary evil but there could be a better way to centralize but remain remote.
