I worked at Cracker Barrel full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Easy to make good money in the mornings and still have your nights to yourself
Have multiple associate managers, so you're bound to like at least a couple of them
Menu is pretty basic and doesn't change too much
They do offer benefits and an employee discount

    Cons

Customers are CHEAP. Do not expect 20% tips a majority of the time
It literally will take almost 2 hours to be able to leave work because after you're taken off the floor, you still have to clean your tables, do your sidework, and roll a ridiculous amount of silverware
If you do want to move up into a management position, it will take FOREVER and the pay is horrible for those promoted internally
If you're a pretty girl, you will get sexually harrassed by patrons and management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that people who are promoted internally are of much more value than those hired from outside the company.

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
    Approves of CEO

Former Employee - General Manager in Raleigh, NC

    I worked at Cracker Barrel

    Pros

The pay is reasonable compared to others

    Cons

Long hours, 6 day work weeks (thewy don't tell you that part...), short staffed with managers, no concern for balance of personal and professional time, inconsistant feedback, very politcal

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think long term. Stop treating you managers like they are disposable. While they may be easily replaced now, that will change, and when it does you will have a brand new reputation- and a very small pool to draw applicants from.
