I worked at Craven Community College full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The college is committed to its students and desires to improve services. The students are wonderful to work with and there are many leadership opportunities and special opportunities for students.

    Cons

The college is focused on increasing enrollment and improving services, but do not provide the resources necessary to successfully implement change and support growth. In the past few years they college has gone through many restructuring of offices and staff. This resulted in staff taking on additionally resources and responsibilities and doing multiple jobs for the same salary.

I worked at Craven Community College part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

It is a nice campus, kept clean. Pay is very competitive for adjunct faculty, especially Basic Skills instructors. Paid training and flexible schedules are some of the best perks. This school also makes sure it stays on top of legal changes.

    Cons

Depending on what you teach (for me it was GED) you have to look at the population of New Bern. Some students are not really interested in learning. It can be difficult to manage the class. It is difficult to get in at the college. I recommend making friends with someone in HR or the department you wish to work in prior to applying.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some of the management seems very disconnected to what the instructors really do on a daily basis. More involvement would be highly beneficial.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I enjoyed working here and I enjoyed the drama-free atmosphere. I loved working alongside the librarians and I obtained many skills that not only helped me in my studies but also have made me a reliable and trustworthy asset to my current company. I am able to find and research information in a way that gives my company insight to make formidable and informed business decisions on a day-to-day basis.
