Pros
Salary is good as long as you negotiate your terms in the beginning.
Direct co-workers within IT group are good to work with, but not so much in other areas of IT; co-workers outside of IT are mostly quite pleasant to work with.
Time off requests are almost never denied.
Tuition re-imbursement ($3000/year), but is unadvertised; must inquire about it.
After 5 years of employment, 401k contribution matching is bumped from 6% to 10%.
CIO is a pleasure to work with, as long as you do your job. If you don't do your job, you better prepare for battle.
Employees within IT who are expecting a baby are always given a surprise "baby shower" with a gift card to help with expenses.
Cons
You are generally micro-managed and overlooked.
Hard work/good work is never recognized. You feel lucky if you hear "thank you."
Career paths are non-existent; each job role is pigeonholed. You must go unreasonably far beyond your current job's scope of work just to get ahead, if at all.
No vision plan, unless you are diabetic.
Medium/large tasks are requested to be completed in a very unreasonable amount of time.
Working hard gets you nowhere. Your reward for hard work is getting to keep your job.
Many employees are "new" because they quit due to high stress, being over worked, and the amount of issues ("Incidents") that are seen. Turnover is quite un-believeable.
"Preventative maintenance" is a term that is laughed at, literally. Environment is 10% proactive, 90% reactive.
Money is wasted in many places within IT, however is very lacking in the areas that actually need money to be spent.
The only motivation to do good work is the current economy; no internal incentives to do a good job.
The work environment is extremely political. Be prepared for this!!!
Meetings usually consist of managers talking only to each other, and shooting down input of any other team member.
If a position above your current position is required to be filled, you will not be asked to apply, nor will you be considered for the position if you inquire. External contractors are hired first, often from another state (this is insulting, rude, degrading, and generally offensive).
Truly, this list could go on for a while, but I think this is gives a good idea of the "cons".
Advice to Senior Management
Respect the people beneath you, listen to their ideas, and promote within the company. Typically, seasoned employees wish to move up and are a better choice than an unknown Joe Schmo.
Give better raises and recognize your employees.
Don't overwork employees. Can't you count the number of people who have quit because of this alone?
Pros

Horrible upper Management in IT. No opportunity to grow in IT. No career path in IT. Not a pleasant work environment in IT. No training. Employees are very unhappy. It really is like a dungeon where people are aftraid to say what they really think.
