I have been working at Credit Suisse full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

CS has nicer than average people
The bank has a good skill pool in front office

    Cons

CS has a culture of indecision and procrastination
It is managed by ageing management for the benefit of ageing management
Revenues keep falling, even on strong markets, as risk aversion stifles business
Also compliance is applied there with a view that if the regulator wants 100 CS wants 150, not only does this create costs, delays and paperwork but it is a significant handicap vs competitors who simply respect present laws and regulations instead of trying to go further than everyone else (which no one pays for)
London is a cash cow office, where compensation is held back to pay for the army of people who work less employed in Zurich
Finally CS is handicapped by FX and continuous fines paid for past misdeeds in private bank but whose burden is shouldered by present employees in other divisions
Avoid CS in general, London in particular

I have been working at Credit Suisse

    Pros

Good work life balance, relaxed environment.

    Cons

Promotion is slow. Until recently, promotion was based on time served, now it is based on a meritocracy although this has not completely filtered through the organisation. CS do not really invest in training and developing its people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve promotion opportunities and invest in training, development and coaching.

I worked at Credit Suisse as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

I was a participant on the 1st year spring insight program and I had an enjoyable week. Credit Suisse seems like a great company to work for with strong company values.

    Cons

I hadn't undertaken work as such but the hours depend on your role. As expected, front office roles have longer hours than middle and back office roles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Constant feedback should be provided at regular intervals throughout any programme.

I have been working at Credit Suisse full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

An inclusive and collegiate environment and a wonderfully diverse place to work. The people are great and the culture excellent. You should expect the hours to be a little longer in an organisation like CS, but sometimes you do what you have to do to get the job done.

    Cons

Banks and large organisations do not adapt or change quickly, Credit Suisse is no exception to this. You will need to plan, persuade and have patience if you wish to effect change here. That being said, CS is doing a pretty good job in the face of challenging global markets and tough regulatory conditions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Strategy has not flowed well for the private bank in recent years, it does not appear to be 'joined-up' and feels fragmented. The organisation needs to refocus on clients and how it should add value and engage and service them.

    Pros

Lot of bright people in the company and good ideas in IT. This is place if you are interested in learning about the business and IT in one go.

    Cons

Management think very narrowly. Most teams have a lot of contractors and perm staff do not get the bonus as per market conditions.

    Pros

The business is innovative but is getting short changed by the IT department.

    Cons

Very hierarchical management structure. Senior IT staff not focused on delivering IT solutions. Over emphasis on philanthropy and soft skills. Senior staff (directors and above) are not technical or innovative in their approach. HR is not at all focused on needs of the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Less emphasis on soft skills.
