    Friendly colleagues, good staff benefits

    Cons

    Managers and above are very good at delegation and do not have much experiences to guide junior staffs. As an IT company, it does not give opportunities for creativity to flow in instead always follow old ways. The company does not appreciate old staffs that have worked so hard for the company that set the foundation for the new staffs.

    The management should really work at identifying talents instead of listening to the immediate supervisors' feedbacks.

    Pros

    Company is good for freshers or beginners who want to learn .
    Salary is decent

    Cons

    1) not many projects in pipeline.
    2) Projects are driven and monitored by Singapore team,Blr team has to just follow the steps.
    3) Management and senior team is clueless and whole team has to rush to complete work without looking at quality.
    4) Project delivery timelines are very short and everytime employees has to strecth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1) Revise HR policies and don't let project management to override it based on project need.
    2) Make policies transparent, many employees are not aware of any employee friendly policies

    Nothing good about this company and it gets worse

    Cons

    a) Senior Management is clueless on how to run the company. To make it worse, they just listen blindly to the Project Managers who are yes-men
    b) Appraisal is not transparent and there are many rounds of moderation as Project Managers would keep lowering it to suit the VPs. Only those who bootlick gets good appraisal
    c) They made full use of you during the project and the moment the project is rollout, they start to retrench people. Recently, they ask many people to leave after they launched a big Government project in Nov

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Time to shake up and manages the company better. It's not a coincidence that the company did not win more than 2-3 projects in Singapore for the past 12 months.

    In the recent exercise which you ask people to leave, the name list is generated by Project Managers/Managers are biased. You lose the good people rather than incompetent people

    Pros

    Good work and life balance -> but this depends on who your manager is
    Good personal development -> again this also depends on who your manager is
    Good place for you to bring in your creativity -> sadly this is also depends on who your manager is

    Cons

    they have managers that really true leaders, but they also keep managers that act like a bad school teacher

    I believe new ideas and creativity is more important than just a hard work.

    Pros

    The company builds and operates application systems for governments and implemented quite a few government transaction websites in Singapore and abroad. It operates its own data centre and call centre. This provides opportunities for those who want experience on complex projects and learn manage and operate large complex systems for governments. Opportunity for travel as some more and more projects are overseas.

    Set-up is geared to support mid-sized to large software development projects. Projects have to follow a company quality management processes. Project staffing is managed by a central resource management group. In the past year, company has been upgrading internal systems and tools to support its projects. Company recently brought in a Chief People Officer to implement people management strategies.

    Good and pleasant work environment. Colleagues are generally friendly. Staff is allowed to dress less formally when not meeting customers. Company recently improved staff benefits such as introducing eldercare leave which not that many companies in Singapore are giving.

    Cons

    Due to the tender process used by governments, projects are awarded to the most competitive bidder. This means that projects often start with tight deadlines, tight budgets and stringent requirements to meet. Added to that the challenge of needing to bring in many good people at short notice when a new big project comes in. Handling stress and some OT comes with the territory.

    Pros

    Relaxed easy life; Managers have no direction and eventually neither do you. KPIs are assigned without strategy, direction or sanity-check, so are completely useless for any purpose other than going through the motions.If you enjoy 11 months of headless-chicken relaxing time and 1 month of panicked finger-pointer at appraisal time, this company is for you.

    Cons

    Horrible, toxic, leadership. Managers (managers, directors, vp's and above) do not empower, lead, or even delegate properly. They assign jobs then tai-chi away any sort of responsibility. If things go well, they take credit; if things go badly they blame the poor slob that they never supported. The new CEO is trying to change things, but is facing a horribly non-productive entrenched culture kept in place by an even more horribly non-productive entrenched layer of management. CrimsonLogic has an alarming combination of many long-timers (5-15+ yrs service) and very high attrition rate for the newcomers. You find yourself under a horrible toxic leader, look for a way out, then realize other leaders are no better, so ultimately you have no choice but to leave.

    Chop from the top. The crony culture is stifling any sort of meritocracy, and to effectively change corporate culture, you need to replace the people who are opposed to positive change.

    Pros

    working in CrimsonLogic is normally not stressful. And the landscape is quite charming. there are lots of canteens nearyby that offers cheat but delicious food.

    Cons

    Products still built on Old technology stack and the development process is damn waterfall. Lots of outdated documentation leads to arguments between departments..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay more attention to technology improvement;
    Introduce some Agility to the process
    Change the KPI system to motivate individuals

    Pros

    1. Good place to skive around if you’re the management pet. You do not have to do much work, and yet receive good appraisals. The time spend in office everyday can be used to run own business outside.
    2. Not much responsibilities. If your skin is thick enough, you can actually do not deliver much and ask for more helpers to take over the responsibilities. Management usually approves. Hence it’s not uncommon for project team size to be in excess of 60-130++ people, even though other companies probably can do it with much resources.
    3. They pay above market rates for the same positions.

    Cons

    1. Not a place to develop IT skills. The technologies and methods used in the company are still very old.
    2. No accountabilities and responsibilities of Project managers/directors. If you’re technical people, most likely your PMs/PDs expect you to piece everything together, from requirements to development, to Data migration, change management etc and let you front and present to customers. PMs would just want to sit in and ask you to cc them.
    3. PMs/PDs would expect you to make decisions for the projects. If things do not turn out well, they push the blame to you as you’re making the decision and they claim they do not know anything at all. Even if you showed them the emails which they are in the loop, they will argue that they can’t read every emails.
    4. PMs/PDs do not have any knowledge of managing projects. They lack the necessary IT skills and they do not manage the people in the project team such as developers. They only “manage” the BPA (Business Process Analysts) and leave the management of developers to Technical Leads/Solution Architects.
    5. PMs/PDs do not manage the cross functional teams such as BPAs, Data Migration, Technical teams etc and expect them to communicate seamlessly.
    6. PMs/PDs do not manage user expectations/requirements well and spend years to gather requirements. When the requirements are still incomplete, they would push the blame to technical people for “not delivering the project”.
    7. Politics are abundant in the company. It still runs like a family business (with feuds of course) whereby each competes with each other and sabotage each other.
    8. Appraisals are not transparent. You can be hardworking and exceed expectations but your rating is moderated to be lower than free loaders who are kakis to management.
    9. All project teams within the company do not talk to each other. Very common for each team to develop the code from scratch when others already implemented the code in other projects.
    10. After 25 years of delivering Government projects, the company still function like an early start-up, with no documentation or frameworks for development.
    11. The corporate QA is non-existing. Some projects do not have proper documentations for 2 years or more and yet, such projects can pass internal project audit.
    12. Most PMs/PDs are incompetent and only know how to bootlick the VPs for promotion. Even if VP makes wrong decision, they just follow blindly and be the yes-men.
    13. Most PMs/PDs are without integrity. They can anyhow make empty promises to customers and keep delaying the projects shamelessly.
    14. Most PMs/PDs are headless chicken. They would just get the rollout date from customers blindly and work backwards the schedule. They do not know what’s critical path in IT projects and they just keep throwing resources, in the hope that projects can be delivered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. Review the Cons listed. There are many elements of truth as everyone is saying the same thing for the past two years.
    2. You need to revamp the company and weed out the freeloaders and bootlickers. These bad eggs are chasing the good people away.
    3. Many projects are running for years and by the same PMs/PDs. If they can’t deliver, it means they really can’t deliver. Even if you throw money, more resources, the project is not going to fly.
