    Product Manager, Critical Path

Product Manager (Former Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsC P is fine if you are desperate for a job. With all of the turmoil and management turnover, strategic gyrations and layoffs, its pretty hard to recommend them as an employer.

ConsThree words - lack of stability. If you buy into the latest strategic direction, go for it. Otherwise, know that your tenure may be cut short at any time.

Advice to Senior ManagementReestablishing credibility is job one. Getting compensation up to a reasonable level is next. Providing stable employment, or at least compensating employees for the risk they are taking is a critical step.

A once great consulting company that has fallen by the wayside due to mismanagement and offshore competition.

Senior Science Officer (Former Employee) Portland, OR

ProsExcellent staff many of whom who are simply the best in the business. Ongoing flow of projects for different clients means great variety in the work. Downtown location is ideal for absorbing Portland culture and easy to use mass transit options. Because they have had many high profile clients in the past, having Critical Path on your resume can make you seem elite. The company provides a beer tap and the employees contribute to a fund to purchase kegs. Management has purchased Xbox, PlayStation 3 and Wii consoles although usage of them during work hours is frowned upon. A foosball table is also available but also frowned upon.

ConsCompensation is definitely below market. Some senior level employees make less than $75k/year. Management frequently uses contract help for longer than allowed by law. Health benefits are very poor and employer pays premiums for employees but not wives and families. Bonuses are usually paid annually but can be quite low. There is no matching 401k or stock options. Management often misleads clients about resource allocation and encourages employees to "double bill" - i.e. bill more than one client during the same period of time. Employee reviews are infrequent and raises even less frequent. Criticism of management is discouraged and has even resulted in retaliation (firing). Management never takes responsibility for it's own mistakes and is prone to blaming others for its shortcomings.

Advice to Senior ManagementValue and respect your employees, they are your most important asset.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
