Pros
They will hire graduates with no experience and train them. The advancement is opportunites are good.
Cons
For women the advancement is slow and sometimes the hours are not that great.
Advice to Senior Management
Leadership is good but sometimes comes across as biased. They need to stop the moving up friends while passing on those qualified for the positions in this company.
Pros
Pay is OK. Benefits are average. If you have passion for it, this company can be very rewarding. They don't micromanage you if there are no major issues at your account.
Cons
Long hours (minimum 10 hour days) and it is difficult to get time off. Most promotions are given through favoritism and not to the best qualified person. This leads to incompetent upper management at many accounts. There is a high turnover rate of supervisors. HR is a joke. This makes it nearly impossible for career progression. Most upper management takes credit for everything that others have accomplished and speaks negatively about their direct reports when they are not around.
Advice to Senior Management
RMs should get to know the management at their accounts and have more say who should be in which positions. It is the 1st level management that makes the company a success.
Pros
a lots of over time
Cons
lack of opportunities for growth
Advice to Senior Management
no
Pros
There is the opportunity for growth and advancement provided it is allowed to happen. More training in coming into place in the industry.
Cons
You can't grow if your boss doesn't release your position. They tend to stunt your growth in certain areas.
Advice to Senior Management
Operation Manager is a key position and their leadership needs some revision. Not all managers march to a different beat. But there should be some more training, these managers are directly over the hourly assoiciates and need to know how to guide them.
Pros
Ongoing training, diverse, promotes from within
Cons
Low salary pay-scale comprable to similar positions with other organization
No increase in vacation with years of service- 3 weeks
Very little support from corporate office specifically Benefits and Payroll
If you are promoted from within the organization, your salary will only be increase 10% unless you are an exception
Advice to Senior Management
Increase vacation, increase compensation packages, increase hourly employee wage rates, staff the corporate office to support all units.
Pros
Advancement opportunities, but you have to want it and work for it.
Cons
Long hours and depending on the account you work at, it could be blissful or painful.
Advice to Senior Management
Effective Communication(Only in some particular accounts) is needed for efficiency and satisfied results.
Pros
Learn a lot about yourself
Manage your own staff
If you need a job and don't care in what field this one is right for you
Cons
Senior management is incompetent
Get paid very little for all the work you do
No work life balance
Anything that could be a downside in a company is a downside here
Advice to Senior Management
Fire all the managers, directors, etc that are dead weight in the company because it's becoming a cancer to your whole organization
Pros
You are allowed to work faily independently and make a lot of decisions without going up the management chain for permission to do something that the client asks.
Cons
It has become strictly a bottom line company. When I started with the company, it was about service and the profits would follow. It is now about profits and the customer be damned.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop worrying about the bottom line. Crothall became a very sucessful company by taking care of the customer and had a high retention rate. Now it is about the bottom line and the retention rate is starting to slip. It is going to go through the floor.
Pros
Benefits - pay for you to move good people
Cons
Long hours hard on supervisors
Advice to Senior Management
promote your supervisors and pay them more
Pros
If you do not have experience in management this would be a good place to start. This will give you the tough experiences in managing people. You will manage people anywhere from 10 to 40 people at a time. This is invaluable experience. This job will let you know if you are good at managing people or not. This company will take you without management experience if you have a college degree. Crothall is a big company. I am only talking on the side of housekeeping in a hospital setting.
Cons
The downsides are the hours of work. You work a mandatory 50 hours per week. Soon after being hired you will work at least 60 hours per week. If you really want to be promoted and succeed then you will have to come on your days off. If you care about family time then this is a bad job for you. You will spend at least 1 year and a half before being promoted to a higher position with weekends off. If there are hurricanes then you will have to stay and live at the hospital. Any natural disaster and you will not be allowed to leave. This can cost you your job. The hospitals are in the business of keeping patients and making money. They will not transport patients because it can mean losing money. You will be scrubbing out toilets and cleaning floors etc during natural disasters. It is hard to picture this when you own a business degree. As an Operations Manager it is a very challenging career both physically and mentally. They expect you to complete your paper work but you are only allowed in the office for 20% of your day. The rest of the day you have to be out and about inspecting every inch of the hospital. That is the reason you need to come to work on your days off. On your days off you are completing the office work that is needed on a daily basis.
Advice to Senior Management
I would recommend Senior Management to let the operations managers stay in the office at least 40 to 50% of the day.
