    Pros

Great firm to work for out of college.
Excellent support resources and an open work environment.

    Cons

Work-life balance is not as flexible as marketed.
Poor collaboration amoung managers limited efficiency, resulting in longer work hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Crowe is struggling to redefine their national image as a large national accounting firm, while at the same time claiming to maintain their small firm values. Management needs to communicate a clearer image / firm mission, in order to let their employees and clients know with whom they are working. Perhaps this will reduce the high turnover experienced amoung the staff and senior staff levels. I believe Crowe will continue to grow, but it is hard to tell what they will ultimately become.

    Pros

Crowe attracts great people to work there, so your colleagues are talented, energetic, and dedicated upon hire making it an exciting place to work until the effect of the kool-aid you were given in orientation wears off.

    Cons

The focus is so bottom line driven in the past few years that the people are again a widget of sorts lacking anything that makes them special to management. Scheduling is like herding cattle and the first 4 people available go despite career choices, travel, or personal impact. If there wasn't so much emphasis given during recruiting and hiring at all levels about the value each person, as an individual makes, this might be status quo...but instead it winds up resembling an infommercial once you have the sub-par product in hand.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember what made Crowe the actual "Unique Alternative to the Big Four" - it included a large chunk leadership investing and caring in the people employeed, who then did the same for their clients.

The decline from being awesomely different has been sad.

    Pros

Crowe offers a large variety of valuable training opportunities and a number of resources that are always available as needed.

    Cons

Little recognition for a job well done, and low pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize a job well done when it is deserved and reach out to the lower staff-levels more, even if it is a simple hello every once in a while.

    Pros

Crowe has a great "midwestern" feel to it. All of the employees tend to get along well, and enjoy their time at Crowe. There is definitely a "get it done" attitude.

    Cons

If you aren't an accountant, don't work for Crowe. They haven't figured out how to balance consulting with accounting, and there is definitely a bias in the leadership.

Former Employee - Senior Staff in Indianapolis, IN

    Pros

    Good benefits.
    Friendly management.
    Paid professional certification training.

    Cons

    Unrealistic goal setting.
    Client hoarding.
Over-zealous in cutting staff in tough economic times.
    Serious senior management issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A firm is only as good as the talent it attracts and retains. Doing blanket layoffs of 100+ people at a time has seriously damaged the public face of the company and restricted their ability to attract the best talent out of college. Do everything you can in the future to protect your staff and management level employees, not just the executives and partners.
