    Pros

    If you are new to insurance you'll learn more in 1 year then most brokers learn in 4 years

    Cons

    If you're not smart, articulate, hard-working, don't know how do the corporate ass kiss and aren't good at problem solving, this won't be a good experience for you. Your happiness will depend upon the division you're in, some divisions are wonderful, some are hell holes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More "supportive" one on one mentoring after the first year. Let new AE's in field offices know which resources to call in NY when they're stuck. Continue breaking down the silo culture of divisions. Work on the mid level managers in the divisions and the cities where you know the morale stinks.

    Pros

    Benefits (health, etc) are adequate.

    Cons

    This was the most hostile, disrespectful place I have ever worked. Everything revolves around the bottom line. If you're not bringing money in the door, you are treated like a second class citizen. Promotions, reviews and bonuses are entirely subjective and based entirely on who you know and who you suck up to. The executive management is like a 3 ring circus where each executive has an agenda, yet nothing ever gets decided. They fight among themselves and that hostility filters down to all employees.

    There is absolutely zero training available. You have to learn from your co-workers. Middle management is incredibly weak. They pile work on the lower level employees and expect them to "do more with less".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    There are one or two individuals in the most senior of positions in the company who are destined to drive every good and decent person out of the company. The owner needs to take a long, hard look at those individuals and realize what they are doing. The abusive behavior must stop.

    I worked at Crystal and Company as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

    The pay was pretty decent for a temp assignment.

    Cons

    Co-workers that treated me like I was a nuisance; I wasn't familiar with their computer system and when I'd ask about how to use/do something more than once, you'd think I was asking them to re-invent the wheel or something.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Manager was very harsh and chalked it up to "being from New York"; was verbally abusive to me and yelled at co-workers pretty often.

    Pros

    Great people with a common goal to succeed in the insurance industry.

    Cons

    Success is mostly based on the "clicks" in the office. Many are awarded because of whom they socialize with, not their merits.

    Sloppy training process with time consuming system, but done differently between teams, yet management expects consistency. Lack of follow through with management regarding obstacles that needed to be address. Does not fare well for employee if he/she express issues/concerns.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Management wants feedback, but when given you're crucified for expressing your issues/concerns. It would be best if management actually took action for the betterment of employee morale as opposed to pretending to be concerned and disregard it soon after.

    Management and Directors are to self serving and they pick favorites between their staff.

    Pros

    Decent client list and some client loyalty helped to establish the name locally among competitors.

    Cons

    Weekly reports to management took you off your main goals and objectives, very little kudos and very low employee morale. A revolving door of local managers when in actuality the home office was the only place decisions above which coffee to serve would ever be made. Slowed down the process for nearly everything.

    Your employees may not be family, but they should not be treated as outsiders, either.

    The most hostile enviornment I can imagine, very hard to be productive when being screamed at constantly.

    Treat employees with respect; the first issue should be solve the problem, not why is it your fault.
