I have been working at Cubist Pharmaceuticals full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Company that is working for a true unmet medical need
    Incredible Culture
    Opportunity for growth
Much room for entrepreneurship and having ideas heard

    Cons

Small company that is still working out processes

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company values are on point in medicine and in STEM funding; however the company lacks initiative around sustainable practices to ensure a healthy planet.

I worked at Cubist Pharmaceuticals full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Dynamic work environment and overall positive culture of working to discover, develop and bring to market new therapeutics for key unmet medical needs. Lots of opportunities to work with people with different backgrounds, experiences and expertise. Many good colleagues over the years, although a lot of the more experienced workers are being pushed out. Many nice perks, including ESPP, 401k matching, on-site fitness facility, exercise classes & free massages, summer ice cream truck, and monthly Friday celebrations.

    Cons

Lots of new egos and plenty of management structure getting in the way of conducting high quality science. Decisions made by managers with limited experience and breadth of understanding. Too many silos from group to group and across different departments. Oftentimes conflicting and changing leadership positions and directions. Poor communication between research, clinical, business & development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promotions and rewards focus too much on higher visibility positions and higher level workers. Opportunities for formal training are often limited or non-existent.

I have been working at Cubist Pharmaceuticals as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Great place to start out and learn.

    Cons

Immense differentiation between contractors and full time employees. Employees are not very keen to share work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to develop the culture and promote work and knowledge sharing.

    Pros

Good work life balance / intelligent, dedicated colleagues

    Cons

Salary for my function is not as competitive as it should be

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to be better at recognizing and rewarding employees who make valuable contributions but are not necessarily in high profile positions.

Great place to work but to become 'permanent' employee from contractor is not easy, takes a long time

I have been working at Cubist Pharmaceuticals as a contractor

    Pros

    great people
    culture of learning
nice perks like ice cream truck on mondays, masseuse, decent gym, an awesome new cafeteria potential to become a huge industry presence in the future
    pay is good
    great industry experience
the buildings (and labs) were recently renovated and are gorgeous

    Cons

as the title says, certain scientific/engineering entry level spots (including phD level) are only open to contractors. Many positions remain contract only (no health, education, 401k benefits) for years. There is no timeline for when the positions will become permanent, if ever. If there is a timeline they do not divulge this to contractors. This might make you feel like you have no real stake in the work you are doing, (aside from maybe professional development) and that in the long run your efforts will only benefit the permanent employees in your department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

would be nice to give contractors a pathway to becoming permanent, or at least to explain what needs to change for their position to become permanent. Otherwise, great job! Fun place to work and develop.

    I worked at Cubist Pharmaceuticals

    Pros

Cubist has a great leadership team that is focused on growth, that of the company and employees. Benefits are excellent and the campus has everything you need, including a massage therapist! Overall, great place to work.

    Cons

Like many growing companies competition among employees can be tough. This often means management has a tough time rewarding employees for performance when everyone is outperforming. Might also mean management needs to set more ambitious goals.

    Pros

Very flexible and open to trying out new ideas. Great to work with colleagues from the industry who are passionate to help patient suffering from MRSA.

    Cons

A lot of cross functional projects and hence the ownership for projects sometimes is take away. This could either be a pro or a con.
