Pros
It is a very easy-going environment, and the management here is great. The pay is decent and there are many discounts given to employees for numerous things.
Cons
The pay could be better, and bigger bonuses would be nice too. Other than that it really doesn't have much downside
Pros
Diversty is respected and encouraged
Point of views and Opinions are all considered and used
Work life balance is very well maintained
Family life is encouraged
Really seek to match Career goals and personal growth
Cons
For those who like a career structure (i.e. from job 1, you move to job 2 after x years and than job 3, etc) it can be difficult to adapt in the company. The company let everybody decide which path he/she wants to take to reach his/her professional goals.
The perfomance review system needs to be improved to give power AND visibility to the performer and not the reviewer.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue what you are doing: growing by entrying into new markets, like Africa.
Improve the current performance review system. If I understand that it's difficult to satisfy all the employees' concerns, I still think that the current system doesn't give much visibility/power to the performer: which is certainly not what you are looking for.
Pros
Cummins is a diverse company with many growth opportunities. They have many opportunities to move around and find a position that you are best suited for.
Cons
The "Great Place to Work" slogan is highly dependant on your manager. You might have to move around a few times to find it.
Pros
Cummins offers Career advancing opportunities.
The salary you get for that location is excellent.
Cummins focuses a lot on employee education & empowerment
Cons
Cummins HQ Location might be unattractive for some, but if you are ready to commute 30-50 min, you can live in Indy or Bloomington, great places.
Advice to Senior Management
Cummins has all the right HR systems in place. Still there is a scope for work culture improvement.
The work speed is slow and can definitely be improved.
Pros
- Opportunities to take on a lot of work
- Leaders seem to be happy to act as mentors
- Diversity is promoted
Cons
- Many politics
- Insurance is not good
- Pay is not as high as similar positions in the area
Pros
You can get a lot of responsibility quickly.
Can move around easily within company.
Good technology.
Good co-workers (generally).
Cons
Cummins is an unfaithful employer. The ranking system with forced layoffs creates a poisonous atmosphere. Because of the system, employees doing good work are routinely fired. While the current company position is that there are nor forced layoffs, don't believe it. They will be back as soon as the current hiring binge is over. So be realistic - go to Cummins to get a lot of experience early in your career, then leave for a company that is more faithful to its employees. don't stay more than 3 to 5 years. You don't want to be stuck in Columbus mid-career when your turn to get fired rolls around. The hypocrisy between Cummins happy talk about a "great place to work" and the forced ranking and layoffs is breathtaking.
Advice to Senior Management
Management routinely wonders out loud how to increase retention, especially among the highly recruited "diverse" workforce. This is laughable with forced layoffs in place. You'll need something way out of the ordinary to convince people that they are really gone.
Pros
I like working for Cummins, its a very people friendly environment and allows people to have a good work-life balance. My manager is very understanding and pleasure to work with. They are very flexible in allowing time-off. There is also ample opportunity to move around in different departments, especially for people like us in Columbus.
Cons
Locations are in small towns and remote places, so employees don't have exposure to big cities and cross corporate culture. Secondly some people do not have enough work to do because work is largely outsourced to contractors. Some IT people may feel that atmosphere is too laid back as compared to typical IT culture.
Advice to Senior Management
There is lack of communication between senior management and employees. Occasional meetings or seminars will the whole employee community should be held by senior managers to improve this communication.
Pros
Diversity. Cummins provide equal opportunity.
Cons
Health care is very bad.
Pros
- Very good company to work with
- Good compensation, or atleast reasonable
Cons
- Difficulty to explore
- Politics
- Not everyone in the senior management with open mindedness
- Untollerable workforce management - tendency to send people out
- Columbus, not a great place / happening place
Advice to Senior Management
Show some attitude
Pros
it is good to work at cummins with challenging work and good process to follow. Located close to indy and good benefits
Cons
small town setting, old technologies, autonomous groups, salaries and red shirt of cummins are some of the downsides of working at cummins.
