I worked at Cummins Generator Technologies

    Pros

The vast majority of the employees are very skilled and dedicated to their jobs. A real pleasure to work with.

    Cons

Management at the corporate office is not in touch with branch office needs. On the customer side of things this used to be very customer oriented operation, now it's a cold, uncaring service provider. On the employee side they have cut a lot of positions only to hire people back on contract without benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cummins NPower management needs to realize that what works in Minneapolis isn't necessarily the best thing in De Pere, WI. Their "Big City" attitude doesn't play well in small town Wisconsin.
Learn who your customers are and quit micro-managing your local branch managers. Full time employees with benefits are far more productive and loyal than temps and contractors

I worked at Cummins Generator Technologies full-time

    Pros

They paid for my accounting training. There were some great people to work with. Stamford is a lovely place to work and live.

    Cons

Leadership was totally absent. The best way to get promoted was to either a) Moan to Senior Management b) Tell everyone how awesome you are 24/7. There was very little opportunity given to those who actually wanted to do a good job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Staff who work hard and smart should be rewarded with promotions (not those who moan and self-promote)

I have been working at Cummins Generator Technologies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company is truly multicultural and values an international background. The starting salary, compared to similar jobs was attractive. A very good work - life balance.

    Cons

It was impossible to get any kind of training, even the basic to do your job properly.
No way to get any kind of support or help from the management.

I have been working at Cummins Generator Technologies

    Pros

    -Career opportunities
-Great place for quick knowledge if you are starting out
-Access to different fuctions and locations
    -Work-life balance is acceptable
-Some very friendly, professional and knowledgeable people around

    Cons

    -Disrespect to Employees
    -Very conservative
    -Performance doesn't matter
-Forced ranking (based on emotions and gamesmanship rather than performance)
    -Too much lip service
    -Unethical in some ways
-Your career will depend on who you know
-Most of the management can not see further than 3 month ahead
    -Preaching diversity, practising hypocracy

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't confuse favourable economical position and traditionally achieved market place and result with good current management. Plan long term and make sure that all managers are planning long term. Setting conflicting targets for differents function or even same funtcions in different locations is not productive.

I have been working at Cummins Generator Technologies

    Pros

The Stamford site is in a nice part of the country, and you really get the impression that CGT looks after its employees. However, you are still part of Cummins, with the advantages that brings for opportunities to move on and gain different experience. The company is also good at recognising good performance and rewarding those who go the extra mile.

    Cons

Pay is not as good as some competitors. Company isn't very accommodating for employess requiring flexible working patterns.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more prepared to cut parts of CGT that don't pull their weight!
