Pros
Very friendly work envirnment. Upper Management is very easy to talk to, but seldom does anything need to go to that level to be resolved.
Cons
Only real downside is like most smaller companies there is no advancement possibilities unless a sales position opens and that's were you want to go.
Advice to Senior Management
Outstanding job, very fair management and leadership. Other companies could learn how to treat their employees by the leaders at Cummins. Nothing negative to say.
Pros
*Cummins is a well know company and product
*It's a stable and solid company in fortune 500
*flexible schedule is an option
*
Cons
* benefits are poor compared to other companies
* salaries are below average
* internal organization could improve
* vacation time is little with no option to buy
Advice to Senior Management
none
Pros
They work on some good engine , power generator design. Useful for those who are interested in control systems, power engineering , mechanical engineering etc.
Cons
Work place does not offer an intellectually exciting environment. Lots of graduates are hired from low ranked schools so that the firm does not need to pay them really well. The Fridley plant feels like they are still stuck in the '80s and have not really progressed in terms of industrial engineering and assembly line management. Not the kind of place where you would want to wake up and go to work every day.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire employees from top ranked colleges, make the management a lot more efficient. There should be clear communication of responsibilities across different teams and management levels.
Pros
Good work environment, people are friendly.
Cons
Management was somewhat disorganized.
Performance Review system needs work.
Information sharing and Training needs work.
Advice to Senior Management
None.
Pros
If you like a rather laid back... slow moving..... secure job..... then this place is for you.
Cummins does provide a good work /life balance to their employees.
Cons
Not the place to be if you want to be on the cutting edge of technology.
Highly structured.....and process oriented. Feels like creativity is shunned a bit with all the structure. Cummins seems like it is a company that spends more time talking about doing something (proposals, procedures, presentations) than actually doing the work!!!
At Cummins, your hands are so tied with what you can do.... and it seems everyone has a very narrrow job scope.... and they don't cross over into anyone elses.
Advice to Senior Management
I don't know how you'd accomplish this, but some type of restructuring where people are more cross-trained might help the present work environment.
Pros
Good compensation package and easy to move around from position to position.
Cons
High turnover rate. Disorganized chaos everyday. Poor communication. Poor recognition. Everyone works independently. Pay is fair.
Advice to Senior Management
Needs better middle management.
Pros
Employees are compassionate, helpful and encourage one another
Most salaried employees receive a yearly bonus (as long as the company meets expected financial targets)
Pensions are still being offered to retiring employees
Cons
Career development for employees could use improvement
Tuition reimbursement suspended/canceled due to economic downturn
Very little in terms of employee incentive/rewards programs
If you enjoy natural light, would not recommend working at the Fridley plant
Compensation is below average
Advice to Senior Management
Six Sigma is a very powerful tool when used in the proper situation, but is sometimes mis-applied and does not provide as much benefit as expected.
Pros
Good communication from senior management team
Good diversity training
Fair pay
On the face of it, employees are treated with respect
Good e-training (where ever in the world you are)
Cons
Non performing middle managers (no fault of theirs ) who know little or nothing of what they are doing.
Performance measurement is based on these managers and is basically down to your relationship with them or how they 'feel'.
Middle Managers are terrified of senior management for some reason and don't want the whistle to be blown on their incompetence, so they just go along with anything.
No standardisation of new employee training - you have to rummage around to find out what is available (both data and resources).
Not really sure what is required of you and the goal posts change every time
Never a full understanding of projects before going forward.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management (most of them are inthe US) have to go back to the drawing board and really re-interview their reporting managers (at least 2 to 3 levels down). Need to find out if these managers are suited to the jobs. A desperate need to use your well educated everyday staff and use your diversity to engage certain business areas as there are people running some areas without having a clue and are running it in a scary ignorant fashion (i.e. trying to put a square peg in a round hole).
Pros
Discount at local NPower Service Center. Good training program. Plenty of work to do. Good people at the lower levels, usually leave after a bit of time in the company.
Cons
Paid 15K less than market. Poor opportunities for promotion. Unfriendly work environment that is slow and foreign to change. Frustrated workforce, stuck in current positions due to weak economy. Poor management, no leadership is evident.
Advice to Senior Management
This management group is unable or unwilling to take any advice. Not there style. This is not an inspiring group of people.
Pros
stable company
you can hide yourself and never be noticed
don't try to change the status quo and you will be ok
Cons
no sense of urgency,
followers
little to no innovation
Advice to Senior Management
no point
