I have been working at Cummins full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

While each division (Business Unit) operates pretty independently and slightly differently, overall the company is a great large company to work for. They value their employees and actively promote from within. Company does very large amount of community outreach and charitable giving. Strong sense of social values including vocal opposition to anti-gay legislation proposed in HQ state.

    Cons

    Just average salary and benefits.

    Advice to Management

All of the upper mgmt people I have heard speak at internal meetings are really impressive. I believe the company is in good hands.

    Pros

There is a lot of room for personal growth. Everyone in the company is very nice and welcoming, and makes it easy to feel comfortable and right at home.

    Cons

The number of locations available to work at are limited, and aren't in any urban areas. You might have to make quite the commute to get to work.

    Pros

The pros are based upon the breadth of the company and the ease of moving around within roles.

    Cons

I haven't really experienced any negatives here at Cummins besides their locations which are mostly in the middle of nowhere.

I have been working at Cummins full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Engines, engines, and more engines. Great products.

    Cons

Difficult moving around to other internal postings without a master's degree and experience in specific skills. Find a different location, this town is VERY BORING and far from Indianapolis. Not much to do, even Kmart closed down.

    Advice to Management

Better training programs for those who want to move to another role or move up the ladder. Give better bonuses when you have beat your recording breaking profits instead of telling the workers that it's been a bad year.

I have been working at Cummins full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Endless opportunities for career advancement, training, and personal development. A lot of long time employees have "started at the bottom" working as an intern, assembly line worker, or technician and over the years worked their way up to high level engineering positions. Cummins provides the opportunities to make this possible by being flexible with changing jobs and providing endless opportunities for training.

    Cons

In some areas there seems to be a culture that you must work as much as possible, even to the point of skipping off-site group events to make your boss happy and look better than your co-workers during evaluations. This same culture seems to bleed into taking vacation time as well as people are too worried to fall behind and look bad.

    Pros

Company culture encourages personal development. The job was well compensated.

    Cons

The most difficult thing was dealing with the conflict between new initiatives and historical methods.
