I have been working at Curtiss-Wright Controls

    Pros

The work never gets stale because people need to learn new things to keep up with new products being developed.
Flexibility regarding work from home and work hours.

    Cons

Product requirements can be vague, making it hard to know what to develop.
Company is shutting down San Diego site.

I have been working at Curtiss-Wright Controls

    Pros

Small-company atmosphere with lots of flexibility, freedom, and autonomy in work tasks; attitude at operations facility level of willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done and satisfy the customer. Lots of great people committed to doing a great job and helping out across departmental lines.

    Cons

Con of a small-company environment: opportunities for advancement beyond 1st-line management comparatively few and far between. Some upper management isolation and apparent lack of understanding of actual working-level operations i.e. what it takes (and what the challenges are) to get the job done on a recurring basis. Integration of acquired businesses relatively immature to date -- more 'silos' than integrated business units.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Beware risks and hidden costs of minimal department staffing levels -- low depth and/or combined roles in key areas may present problems over time. Articulate more strategic vision to provide appropriate emphasis beyond current quarter and year performance.

    Pros

the people are great to work with (mid management and below). overall a good place to work.

    Cons

for people on office hours there is not enough offered for work/life balancing. there used to be a 9-80 schedule worked, but it was stopped.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

try to genuinely listen to the people--don't just go through the motions by taking surveys and doing nothing. really listen to what is going on day to day and react.

I worked at Curtiss-Wright Controls full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Hourly can work all the overtime they want and don't have to justify there workload. Salary work less than 8 hours day and no overtime.

    Cons

ok place to work if you like a double or triple workload, then when you leave they hire 2 or 3 people to replace you

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Moral sucks because of workload and some employees carry the load and others get away with doing very little.

I worked at Curtiss-Wright Controls full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

You can definitely gain a lot of international experience if you go with the flow and always agree with management. Pay is pretty decent but beware of the commission and bonus programs.

    Cons

Management seems to be constantly changing and creates a unstable atmosphere for the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a lesson from some of the really great presidents and CEOs i.e., Valter Baldacinni of Umbra, Ed King of King Radio, and John Kuperhand. Learn to value your employee's as your most important asset and not see them as just a number.
