I have been working at Cuyahoga Community College part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The flexibility in my work schedule is great, but it varies by dept., My co-workers/colleagues are very friendly, inviting, and willing to help. There are many employee perks: FREE tuition for Tri-C classes and discounted tuition for many of it's partner institutions (Tiffin, Franklin, University of Phoenix, etc.) to support continued education; Use of all recreational facilities/pools; Discounted tickets to various events throughout the Cleveland area. Plus, lots of opportunity for growth, development, and advancement.

    Cons

Hiring process lacks structure and clear communication of job offer, salary, benefits, etc. OPERS payroll deduction (retirement fund) is rather excessive for part-time employees.

I have been working at Cuyahoga Community College part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Very low stress level. Friendly environment all around. Management is very involved in making sure that employees are satisfied. Part-timers get holiday pay.

    Cons

Sometimes very slow, with a lot of down-time. Part-timers do not get shift premium. Somewhat of a boy's club.

I worked at Cuyahoga Community College as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

Lots of room for growth if you're ambitious, engaged and genuinely interested in education at the core. Overall, the institution is very open to new ideas, new strategies for engaging students and, in general, to change.

    Cons

    Too much bureaucracy at times

I worked at Cuyahoga Community College as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Tri-c does good things for the community. The administrator the contract reported to was great to work with. Loved the project and enjoyed learning more about the industry at the same time.

    Cons

Not much negative to say. I had almost no interaction with others at the college, which could have simplified a few items in the contract. However, the person I worked for was bright and may have only wanted ideas from an outsider.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Market rate for contractor work should be more competitive.

    Frustrating.

I have been working at Cuyahoga Community College full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Benefits are decent - healthcare, tuition benefits, good leave accrual, and OPERS retirement...

    Cons

The college does not operate as one entity, multiple campuses operate separately - makes it unnecessarily chaotic for students who attend more than 1 campus. The college invests more in its higher level execs than its own students. Many of these higher level execs don't even report to a campus where students are located, but to a District office completely away from students. The college also relies on an astounding number of grants, seemingly to avoid hard funding various programs that ultimately bring revenue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do more to unify the same departments at multiple campuses. Hire more staff for counseling. Eliminate redundant programs, and find the money to hard fund those programs which ultimately support student program completion.
