Current Employee - Clerk/Legal Service Clerk/Case Management Clerk in Cleveland, OH

    Pros

    Great job for resume
Decent pay if you have no children
Awesome benefits that cost barely anything
    Great new location for commuters
    Local 860 Union
Great job as a stepping stone during college

    Cons

Encourage employees to tell on each other constantly which creates a very awkward and sometimes hostile environment
Pay is under poverty level if you have a family
Constant drama- feels more like The Real World than work
No room for compromise regarding your time off

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat people like you care not like a piece of a machine. Care about people feelings and work with them not against them. People work hard for people they feel deserve it. Also, you get what you pay for. Salary sucks. Most workers have utilities being shut off and you just watch. And last but not least, stop making people feel like you are waiting for them to do something wrong.

    Pros

The cost employees pay for excellent health insurance plans is minimal. The County has an exceptional and generous benefit package.

    Cons

All governmental organizations have considerable dead weight-those irritating few who don't desire to improve services.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Reward innovative thinking!!

    Pros

The insurance benefits are inexpensive, lots of paid time off. Good, stable work hours.

    Cons

Favortism and corruption! Lots of slacking employees. There is absolutely no consistency... The county employees are notorious for hiding when they should be working. I know former colleagues of mine who planned their wedding, did grad school homework, clipped coupons, etc. all on work hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize employees who are dedicated and work hard and reprimand those who don't do their jobs.

Current Employee - Administrative Assistant  in  Cleveland, OH
Current Employee - Administrative Assistant in Cleveland, OH

    Pros

It is reliable, and, for the most part, secure. You are given time to learn the job and there is time to improve.

    Cons

There is little chance for advancement and no raises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is not around much to assist employees in actually functioning on the job. Co-workers are left to fend for themselves in order to figure out the job duties on their own. It appears managers are not actually capable of training, they push that on the workers to help each other. Luckily, that seems to work. Management appears to be in so many meetings, they are not available for helping workers with questions. They actually get angry when asked work-related questions.

    Stable place, great pension package.

Current Employee - Social Worker III in Cleveland, OH

    Pros

Excellent benefits, social workers work really hard to help families. Great training. Social worker positions are union position so your guaranteed an annual raise.

    Cons

Raise are very small, too much bureacracy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop looking for someone to blame whenever something goes wrong. The social worker are only in the homes once or twice a month and are not miracle workers.

  11.

Corruption, collusion, favoritism, racisim, nepotism, injustice run rampant in Juvenile Court!

Former Employee - Probation Officer in Cleveland, OH

    Pros

    Great vacation and sick time.
    Lots of holidays off.

    Cons

No room for advancement unless your part of the clique.
Too many people getting away with "murder" while others get written up and terminated for nothing.
Inept management who colludes with unions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to treat your employees that work their buts off for the kids and their families. Stop wasting time and money on personal vendettas. Maybe you should look at some your employees with connections to see what they get away with daily. Stop promoting juvenile court employees that have no business running departments. A complete restructuring needs to be revisited in the whole probation department. Specifically the overpaid managers in "specialized services and dockets" and the worthless community service department. Most of my colleagues and I placed our own kids.
