I have been working at Cycle Gear part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Discounts, discounts, discounts. If you ride any type of motorcycle then this job is amazing. I've never had a job where I get such a good deal on amazing gear. Vendors like shoei, arai, and dainese give cycle gear employees discounts on their products. I got a $500 shoei brand new from the company for $250. On some things in the store you can get upwards of 60% off. It is absolutely incredible.

    Cons

very numbers driven and sales goal oriented. It can get annoying but in the end that is what lets you get those amazing discounts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that the seasons and the weather have a huge impact on the business of the day. Just because numbers were low one day, does not mean that the employees slacked off all day. Sometimes it just means it was raining.

I worked at Cycle Gear full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Friendly work environment. Strong Team Work. Very flexible. Great work/home life balance.

    Cons

Compensation. Benefits. A little clique-y. Lacks formal processes and procedures (however, I know they are working on it).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want Cycle Gear to grow, you will need to leave your muddy boots at the door and standardize a little more. Start small. Like adding name plates at every desk. Adding titles to individuals in the directory. Having an official signature in all correspondence. With the expected expansion, you will need to bring more polished individuals who are going to make the company move forward, they aren't going to come to a company that doesn't even have the simplest things.

    Pros

    Cons

Leadership. Lack of district direction, don't spent the time and money to inquire talents, can't keep talents if there is some.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your sales team member is you greatest asset, train them right and treat them right, management don't even know what they are doing half the time, don't hire non motorcycle knowledge ATL/TL.

I worked at Cycle Gear part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I love motocross and motorcycles so I hadthe time of my life working here. I loved learning about new products and meeting new people. I never dreaded coming to work (maybe during inventory).

    Cons

"Company" products were horrible quailty and I seriously felt bad selling them to customers and if I see a BiLt helemet on the street today I want to shake the person and tell them to get something safe! I only worked there for a year and a half and I think we had around seven different TL's come in and work with us. It was frustrating because we would learn how to do something one way from one person then someone else would come in and say we're doing it wrong. The company had standards but they weren't being used by everyone like they should have been. To top it all off, a TL from Washington came and gave us all our last pay checks and wouldn't give us a reason why. We all spit balled about it, maybe we were all getting paid to much (we were all over minimum wage at that point) or because we were trained incorrectly. It was a while ago but it still hurts me to think a company would do that to all of us. I loved working here but I've never been back nor will I ever. I'll also never reccommend someone to this store.
