Autocratic Management Style

Director (Former Employee)
San Jose, CA

I worked at Cypress Semiconductor full-time for more than a year

ProsDedicated people. Strong team oriented culture at lower levels in the company. Very good training programs.

ConsThere is too much micromanagement. Once upper management makes a decision it's final. It's very difficult to get a poor decision reviewed, analyzed and changed. Lengthy product development cycles have limited company growth. Bonuses are not always paid timely.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake use of your people’s knowledge and experience when developing business plans.

Cypress hires only the best engineers, others no so much!!!

Applications Engineer (Current Employee)
San Diego, CA

I have been working at Cypress Semiconductor full-time for more than 10 years

ProsOutstanding compensation, great people, challenging projects, cutting edge technology, great opportunities for NCG's to grow their technical toolbox, very strong marketing team

ConsUpper management struggles with critical decision making. Constant re-organization - I've had no less than 10+ managers in the 10+ years working here. Cutting edge technology divisions are struggling financially. Sales and Marketing team is way too lean.

Advice to Senior ManagementDiversify - don't put all your eggs in one giant basket.

Worst company I've ever worked for (20+ years in industry)

Design Engineer (Former Employee)
Seattle, WA

I worked at Cypress Semiconductor full-time for more than 5 years

ProsCompetitive salary, ESSP plan, profit sharing.

ConsAtmosphere of management by fear starts from the top, and is followed down the chain.
Schedules are impossible to meet
Core values of company seem to apply only to individual contributors

Advice to Senior ManagementTell it like it is. If a schedule is impossible. Say it.

Internally driven company focused on keeping CEO happy

Engineering Manager (Current Employee)
San Jose, CA

I have been working at Cypress Semiconductor full-time for more than 8 years

Pros- Good compensation packages - specially options
- Strong documentation system to capture learnings
- Quarterly bonus system to keep track of goals
- CEO is committed (in his own way) to make the company successful

Cons- Internal driven (no focus on markets) culture. Company has been stuck at ~800M for years due to this
- Everything is driven by one person (CEO), he demands and people follow
- Looking good in front of the CEO is the order of the day this includes telling stories
- Process and compliance focus. many policemen and system around to watch you

Great, fun job with good people but unrealistic management expectations

Applications Engineer Member of Technical Staff (Former Employee)

I worked at Cypress Semiconductor full-time for more than a year

ProsVery competitive salary. Company and president takes care of its people

ConsSystems very encumbering, causing development delays and missed market timing.

Advice to Senior ManagementSteamline the processes so that things can get done more quickly. Avoiding all possible errors is not humanly possible and trying to do so by continually adding more checks and procedures serves only to lengthen time to market and employee frustration. Taking reasonable chances will get the company much farther than trying to avoid all problems and errors.

Top Heavy

IT Engineer (Current Employee)
San Jose, CA

I have been working at Cypress Semiconductor full-time for more than 10 years

ProsFlexibility
Open culture
Benefits
At least the individual contributors are super nice and you get to a point where they are almost an extended family.
Great place to be the first few years cause you will learn a lot but past that you're wasting your time.

ConsWay too top heavy. How can you go to battle with 10 generals and 2 soldiers? Doesn't make sense.
Unless you have a manager who can buffer you it's a harsh and aggressive place to work.
Very few actually get the deserved promotion/raise unless you quit.
Way too political. They contradict their core value about politics.

Advice to Senior ManagementTrim upper management.
Hire management that have expertise in their field instead of solely relying on natural talent and unproven track record record.
Stop kissing TJ's behind and do what is right.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
