I have been working at Cypress Semiconductor full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Have great products, can be a real game changer for Cypress and their customers.

    Cons

Way too political in a bad way. Too controlling. Too much de-incentivizing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care about all of your employees. Make them feel like they all matter, not just the upper layer.

    Pros

    benefits, workout room, co workers

    Cons

low pay, no room for advancement, on feet all day, 12 hour shifts, job security

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

pay employees more money seriously a company that makes close to a billion a year pays workers near minimum wages some people have worked on the production floor for 10-15 years only get 5-6 more dollars than a new employee your basically going to get less than a 50 cent raise every year

I worked at Cypress Semiconductor full-time

    Pros

    - fast pace
    - great coworkers
    - latitude for trying new ideas
    - recognition for work

    Cons

    - lower pay than other local tech/medical device companies
    - very high turnover . . . seems to chip at morale
    - many mandates - required overtime, furloughs, required 8AM in the door start time, no distance working or flexibility. does not have a contemporary tech business feel.
    - all of my stock options which are part of my "total compensation package" are worth $0 at current market price. yes, $0.
    - low to no capital expenditure at Minnesota site - squeeze process/mfg engineers for more out of marginal equipment (see high turnover/burnout comment above). No capital plan or roadmap.
    - culture of delaying equipment repairs until things are really broke and then squeeze maintenance/equipment staff (see high turnover/burnout comment above)
    - hyper tactical management
    - out of date 'Focal' employee ranking system, they use a stacked employee ranking system where you are pitted against your coworkers. learn to play this game.
    - quarterly bonus based on 'critical success factors' (tasks or project based items). You may have unachievable goals set -or- task completion is it out of your span of control to complete. Too bad for you! often successful completion of said factors leads to effectively working overtime . . . and if you divide your hours spent by the payout . . . you are getting robbed. again, learn to play this game.
    - long hours for many people - but for some people, that's a pro (!)
    - some are not happy with new vacation policy (see mandates comment above...). If you want to save up vacation for a big trip home or other travel need - look elsewhere

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Things have actually improved in my time there, keep trying!
Focus on what is going well - people are very, very, very aware of what is not going well...so why spend time on it.

I worked at Cypress Semiconductor full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

You can learn a lot if you are ok with no work life balance.

    Cons

It is a very stressful environment. They are always cost cutting and trying to do more with less bodies.
The finance group in particular has had over 50% turnover in the past few years. They lose people and do not replace them and expect the rest of group to pick up the workload.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

treat people the way you would want to be treated.

    Pros

Highly talented engineers, technical learning. You get thrown into the thick of it, are responsible for components quickly.

    Cons

Management values guys who can talk BS more than real work. Too much importance to project management as opposed to creative thinking, innovation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employee morale determines the success of the company.

I worked at Cypress Semiconductor full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

benefits/pay/stock, work from home, "cypress university" training programs. documentation/publishing and work/project reviews first seem excessive, but you learn essential project management skills applicable everywhere.

    Cons

excessive red tape, strict "goal" oriented bonus (miss quarter goal by one day and you lose bonus points - this leads to a spectrum of dishonest reporting wherever possible). not having a 401k match is a downer.

I have been working at Cypress Semiconductor full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Focus on the bottom line -- company is in a pretty stable financial situation.
Engineers are passionate about what they're doing.

    Cons

Focus on finances means company always runs lean. In practice this means trying to do too much with too little. Obvious consequences include: poor communication, folks are stretched too thin; too many "top priorities", management says things like "we have three #1 priorities" fairly regularly; Leads to some angry customers, if they're not a high-value customer support can be hit and miss; Getting anything done is much harder than a reasonable person would expect, CEO, EVPs, and middle managers feel free to stick their nose in and make a big stink, but they don't all want the same things.
