Pros
exciting industry, great peope and team work
Cons
none this is a challenging company with some issues but overall a fair, exciting place to make a career.
Pros
Benefits are much better as compared to companies in competes it against for talent pool in the southeast. But they are very aveage against the aerospace and chemical side companies it competes against for talent nationally.
Cons
Current sr operations managerment has went away from employee feedback and teams to implement changes to work practices and policies. Things are now being driven down from the top instead of a collaborative effort across the teams affected. Key leaders at lower levels of the organization are leaving in mass leaving the direction of the business in chaos.
Advice to Senior Management
When sr leadership was changed in 2009/10, the wrong individual was chosen to lead operations. At some point when you have as many of the strong leaders leaving the company going to work for some of the individuals routed out by the sr leadership change in 09/10 it ought to tell you something. Good people work for good leaders and will only tolerate BS for so long.
Pros
flexibility
innovative
good opportunity to grow
communication good
nice location
Cons
benefits nnot competetive
no roll over vacation
Advice to Senior Management
improve benefits
Pros
Overall good dedicated employees at the "worker" levels who seem to be sincere in their efforts to provide a quality product. Cytec offers some very good products.
Cons
In the company's quest for global recognition, they (senior management) have lost sight of the roots of the company and allowed relatively new "Global Managers" too much latitude in decision making which has created an environment of "quiet dissension". The culture at Cytec has regressed from one of "we" to the current one of "me first".
Advice to Senior Management
My advice to senior management would be for them to do their own due diligence within the company. Instead of taking sanitized or politicized information about colleagues or plant sites as truths from those who have their own self promoting agenda, senior management should engage the subjects to make their own determination. It is too early to rate Bill Wood's performance but in my view he has much work to do in the way of "damage control" from the previous administration. The workforce has been alienated by those in power who preach do as I say as they themselves do little or nothing.
Pros
It is a fun place to work. There is a lot of energy from people surrounding you to get you movitated.
Cons
It can be a chaotic and stressful place to work. People can be abrasive to each other. Shouting and yelling during meeting is common.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the energy flowing but make it a more respectful workplace.
Pros
Good benefits and respect for work/life balance
Cons
Need more collaboration to enable a growth path
Advice to Senior Management
There is great people at Cytec - Need to enable them to grow - The current capital review process is too elaborate.
Pros
There is a lot of work to do and Cytec runs really lean which means there will always be a lot of work to do.
Cons
Finance is moving to a shared service center in eastern europe so don't look at staying around if you get hired soon.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to realize that employees are the number one asset of a company. From the top down, no one cares about work life balance and employees will only give so much before they break.
Pros
Results oriented company
Exciting industry
Solid long term prospects
Cons
Probably too results oriented - managers are terminated very frequently
Extremely poor work life balance (most managers are expected to work 60 hour work weeks at a minimum)
Results from other Cytec divisions are a big drag on performance
Aggressively seeking to dissolve all unions associated with the company to save costs
Way too political
Anaheim facility is a management nightmare
Advice to Senior Management
Improve work life balance
Treat your employees better
Pros
One of the best companies to work for in Greenville. The pay is good and it is somewhere a lot of people like to stay. It tops out after four years however and at that point I would say the individual better have some pension to look forward to.
Cons
Dealing with company strikes such as Boeing's at the moment and the possibilities of being laid off. Working as a temp and waiting beyond your 90 days to be up during a time they have stopped hiring processes is irritating.
So the above illistrates a down fall of working for a company that depends on its customers to be demanding products. That could happend in many places of employment however.
Advice to Senior Management
I would say to take everyones ideas seriously. If we all brainstorm together we could come up with solutions.
