Pros
Steady employment. close to home. the pay is not bad, over time is a plus. the people i work with.
Cons
stop moving upper management around. work with the employees. we are the one that make the company work. stop all the bonuses for upper management
Advice to Senior Management
listen to the people that work on the line. most of us have good work ethics and want cytec to be around for a long time.
Pros
It WAS an Ok place to work... but now everything has changed. They have some good technologies to work with however politics can be so huge to block everything.
Cons
the company management does not have a good idea of how they will lead the company. They are busy in forming new orgnizations, creating new managers... not healthy at all. People with absolutely no knowledge can be promoted to managers directors by favor.
Advice to Senior Management
I do not want to bother. I do not think they listen anyway. There are surveys everyyear, and they came up with a reason for why the results are bad.. never seen action. Now another survey going on.
Pros
Reasonably sincere about their commitment to employee safety and protection of the environment.
Middle-of-the-pack compensation, benefits and policies.
Many opportunities for personal knowledge growth through hands-on experiences, but you'll likely have to make it happen on your own.
A lot of good people at the operations level.
Cons
Difficult to advance as organization is pretty flat. Constantly re-organizing with little perceived improvement in outcomes. A lot of effort expended that seems to go nowhere. Cytec espouses the "Pareto principle" but routinely abuses it; they want 110% of the benefit from 20% of the effort. Company culture is shifting from one that valued loyalty and encouraged speaking truth to power to a "GE / Jack Welch" philosophy. If you're not one of the chosen ones, who seem to be worthless "bobble-heads", you will be frustrated. They seem to be shedding the seasoned professionals in favor of younger, less experienced, cheaper personnel.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't waste your breath offering advice to management; they're not interested in listening to their employees. Strategy appears to value short-term profit with little regard for long-term consequences.
Pros
Most of the front line folks are a joy to work with
good benefits
Cons
Mgmt is a political animal with no accountability for their most often poor decisions.
Everyday life is an unpleasent political work environment
No career advancement.
No recognition
Advice to Senior Management
Start coming down from the mgmt mountain and listen, recognize to your good people
Pros
Smart, capable workforce; very good health benefits; flexible work schedules; fair compensation
Cons
Incompetent upper management; promotions given on favoritism, not merit; long time loyal competent employees eliminated on a whim; employees treated in certain departments unconscionably; honest feedback discouraged, there exists an environment where everyone works for their own benefit being fostered and encouraged by management decisions and behavior.
Advice to Senior Management
Take your head out of the sand and stop ignoring egregious management actions.
Pros
opportunity to learn and grow
Cons
work environment can be isolating
Advice to Senior Management
more structure and organization
Pros
Interesting products, smart people, salary and benefits are ok
Cons
Extreme work hours, corporate management often shooting from the hip (poor planning), horrible information systems and poor processes, revolving door with senior management (lots of people get whacked)
Cytec isn't a bad company, it just hasn't been run particularly well, especially within finance. Lots of quick and poorly planned directions are handed down from Mt Sinai (Garett Mtn) without much thought or understanding of the ramifications.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on the critical few and treat people better
Pros
Cytec offers a stable work environment with decent compensation and a good work/life balance. Benefits are average for the industry/area.
Cons
Cytec does not provide much room for professional growth or career advancement. It is a medium size business which is sometimes run as a small shop.
Advice to Senior Management
Reward your talented people. Keep them engaged and informed. Spend money wisely and where appropriate - not on "pet projects".
Pros
* Flexible timing.
* Freedom while working.
* Compensation is Ok!
Cons
* The Logistics dept is in a mess. (Customers always complaining)
* The Order fulfilment system of the Co is the worst I have seen.
* The India branch lacks "Professionalism" in the management of the office.
* A total lack of team work and team belonging. Everybody is working in isolation and just for oneself.
Advice to Senior Management
* Improve on the Supply Chain.
* Implove to a great extent/Change the SAP/BPCS system in use at the moment.
* The India branch lacks "Professionalism" in the management of the office. Bring in some professionalism.
Pros
Solid leadership. Good place to make a career. Supportive of work/life blance. Home-grown leadership. Good global presence. Good, not great, pay. Very good medical benefits. Getting better across the board, but a lot o f room for improvement.
Cons
Can be too political. Decisions made on personal relationships rather than performance. Not a great place for early-career talent. Not a household name, so not a great resume company.
Advice to Senior Management
Make more of an investment in leadership development and early-career talent development. Company needs more good, young talent. Leadership is not very accessible.
